I have list of things to bring for me and DH to hospital but what do I need for baby? Does he just need 1 outfit to come home in does he need a few since we will be there over night? Blankets? Socks? Hats?
My kids were both full term, but only fit premie outfits. We brought a premie outfit, a newborn and 0-3 months, hats. socks, mittens, and three burp rags. And some receiving blankets. The hospital will give you a couple though. Bring a file too.
I brought 2 outfits, one for hospital pics and one for her to come home in. I didn't dress her for everyday she was there. The hospital might have a tee they put on him (although mine didn't - yep, just a diaper, hat and a swaddle...) but he will be wrapped in a blanket the entire time. The hosptial should have a hat for him but we couldn't take the hospital blanket with us. We brought our own. Socks are up to you, I brought some for DD, but didn't put them on b/c she was swaddled the whole time or covered with a blanket. She was born in August in Texas so the heat was in full force outside.
Just the home coming outfit clothes-wise. I brought LO hats to wear in the hospital because it was cold (they provided one but I wanted my own) and I would bring some socks and a few blankets if you want. They won't let you put LO in any clothes but the ones that the hospital provides.
I brought an outfit for him to wear in the hospital as well as the one to wear on his home. The shirt they had for him was way too big and he kept kicking off the swaddle. I'm glad I did.
We brought 2 outfits: one newborn and one 0-3 to make sure he would fit in something and a blanket. Only needed the one outfit for pictures and going home. Some family brought us an AL hat, socks, and receiving blanket since he was born on a Sat afternoon. So that night he was dressed appropriately for his first college game, but we didn't take that with us and didn't have to have it. He was awfully cute though!

That must depend on the hospital cause DD was in our clothes from the get-go.
To answer the OP, we used 3 outfits in the hospital and had to send my sister for one of those since the others were pretty big on DD. She was 7 lb 9 oz, but only really fit in nb things. Additionally, I really liked having snap front outfits cause putting things over her head seemed a tad scary at that time.
We just brought an outfit for each, hats, receiving blankets for fitting them in the car seats and blankets to drap over the car seat on the walk to and from the car. We had our girls in the NICU before there home coming and they let us take home all the baby gear that was in there cupboards (diapers, bum cream, wipes, clipers, comb, etc)
We only NEEDED a coming home outfit for baby and me. It was July so no hat needed just a onesie some socks and a sweater. And I wore some stretchy yoga pants, nursing bra, tank top and sandals. And I hung out in the hospital gowns the whole time I was there!
No blankets needed, the hospital gave us a bunch to take home.
And while the baby is in the hospital they dress the baby and change her so you don't even need to take any diapers.
I was one of those people who had my babys dressed in matching outfits, hats, socks and no-scratch-mits for every day in the hospital. Oh and I swaddled them in my own blankets. It's up to you though!
My 2 girls, both born on a Friday the 13th, are exactly 2 years, 2 months, 2 hours and 2 minutes apart! And Baby Boy joined us October 11, 2013!
I way over packed for DS, but what I ended up using was one picture outfit and one take home outfit, a hat, socks and a fingernail file (my hospital doesn't provide anything to trim their nails with)
We brought 2 outfits to take him home in. One was way too big. The other, he peed through, all over me and our boppy when I was doing my last BF'ing before leaving the hospital. He ended up going home in the hospital kimono shirt and his diaper. No biggie. And it's a cute story that he'll appreciate when he's a little older I'm sure. When in doubt, overpack, or just bring him home in the hospital stuff.

Re: ? from a 3rd tri
You just need what you'll bring him home in. They provide everything he needs while there.
We took an outfit, blanket and hat to bring baby home in. I'd add socks in this weather.
