Went to a friend's DD's bday party -

It was interesting.

To start we aren't great friends (not close anymore) and rarely talk. The mom posted the 'invite' on Facebook last Friday in which she did mention she was aware it was last minute..... She didn't make an actual guest list/invite folks individually. It was at the local Burger King - no biggie. It was yesterday at noon. Most folks around here attend church. Ours just happens to be 4 mins from the BK,so we headed that way right after. DH called when he got there (stopped to say hi on his way to work) and he said they (host) just arrived as well. He had to sit inside with the bday girl while her mom unloaded the party stuff - NOTHING was ready. The husband was running around trying to find a present. I watched the girls play while the mom put together the goodie bags and set up the cake/hung the banner. Some 30 mins later the grandmother showed up and she aksed her to go to the store to have balloons filled. Other than the grandparents, WE WERE THE ONLY ONES TO ATTEND (and I ended up bringing dh's little cousin). Honestly,I wasn't going to come but DH talked me into it.....

I just don't know what to make of it. The mom kept telling me that all of her friends were inquiring if she was throwing a party because they wanted to come...?!?! She said they decided NOT to give her a party originally but with ALL the requests and questions, she gave in. And now no one bothered to show or call to inform her otherwise. So about an hour in she bought the girls kids meals (nothing for adults, not even a drink),we sang 'happy birthday' and she opened gifts for the g-parents since my dd/cousin didn't care and wanted to play. I felt obligated to stay longer, hoping others will eventually show up - NOPE. We stayed another hour - at least my dd was having fun.

She had all of this cake/cupcakes/goodie bags left....luckily she passed them out to the customers in there.  I kinda feel bad but on the other hand I expected this to happen. I truly don't think she has any real friends and so her dd's party had to suffer.

  • That's a really sad story.

  • A party at a Burger King?   That in itself is pretty sad.
  • IT's sad, but at the same time, what did she expect w/ such a last minute invitation?  on FB no less.  I would imagine more people would have shown up had she planned it further in advance and sent out real invitations.
