School-Aged Children

WONDEFUL parent/teacher conferences.

My girls P/T conferences were today.  I had to take them with me (it was "optional" for the kids to come) and honestly I was glad they did.

My first grader is testing in the high group for math and reading every unit (guess there is a pre-test to help the teacher level the kids???) and she is doing well with everything, just needs to work on punctuation and capitalization when she writes.

My kindergartner is reading at a Level H (which is a FIRST GRADE level!!!!  holy cow! I didn't realize!).  Luckily there is another girl in her class who reads at that level, so the two of them get to do reading and activities together when the teacher needs to teach the students some things that would be redundant to them.  She's doing great with everything...my concerns were her maturity (because her b-day is CLOSE to the cutoff) and her speed (because she does everything SOOO slow at home, she's a perfectionist)...and the teacher had no concerns in those two areas!

I couldn't be more proud of my girls!  I hope this love for reading and school really last for them!!!

  • Yay -- that's wonderful!  I have my kids' conferences in the second week of November.

Both my kids were also reading well in kindergarten, and in both their classes there were a few other kids who were also already reading -- enough to make a reading group.  It's worked out well.

  • Yes that's awesome!
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12
  • That's great!

  • That's awesome! Your kids sound just like mine. I was soooo glad when I found out that someone else tested at the same reading level as DD did.  At least she has a friend to do all of the reading activities with!
