We just moved to the city and live near UIC/South Loop. Anyone know of a good pediatrician not too far from us? I'd be willing to drive a bit so if you have an awesome pedi a little further away, that's good too. TIA.
We moved from the South Loop about a month before DS was born (I LOVED living there and it is a very family friendly area so I think you will enjoy it too). If we didn't sell our condo and move, we planned to go with the pediatricians affilliated with the group NMPG (Northwestern Memorial Physicans Group).
Though we did end up selling and moving, we still delivered at Northwestern and we had the NMPG pediatricians provide care for DS while he was in the hospital after he was born. We had a great experience with them. And they were very laid back and fine with DH watching over as they circumcised DS.
My experience is limited to just those few short days in the hospital, but it is a starting point for you at least. Good luck!
Hi! We take our little guy to NMPG pediatrics, we see Dr. Martin. Their offices are at North & Halsted and we live in McKinley Park (not too far from UIC). Parking is cheap ($2) and always available.
I'd recommend them. Dr. Martin is very thorough and knowledgeable. He talks with us but sometimes talks quickly and we have to get him to repeat stuff -- which he does. I don't have a warm/fuzzy relationship with him but he is very good.
Nurses are nice and friendly and they handle giving shots with ease.
There's another group in that same building (Town and Country Peds) that is popular, but I don't know much about it.
I initially went with NMPH Pediatrics ( North/ Halsted) when I delivered at Prentice and when they came and checked over the baby they seemed good. However, it is impossible to get an evening appointment with them which makes it hard for working mothers and fathers. So I switched to Advocate Medical Group and see Dr. Farnsworth (my son is only two weeks old so we have only had one appointment so far). The doctor was awesome and the staff worked with me on setting up evening appointments. They are open 7 days a week, located by McCormick Place, and have a free nurse on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So far they have been great! Good Luck!
We're down in Hyde Park and go to NMPG Pediatrics in Lincoln Park. SO WORTH the 20 minute drive. We see Dr. Allison Levine. She is absolutely fantastic- warm personality and very knowledgeable. Like PP said, $2 parking in a garage- and it's close to Carter's and other baby stores so we make an afternoon of it.
Re: Need pediatrician recs not too far from the Loop
Bad enough how? I was in the burbs before and admittedly it was really boring but I really like the city so far...
