Infertility

Metformin and Clomid- Please give me advice!

My husband and I have been TTC for over a year now with no luck. I have seen a fertility specialist who has given me multiple tests. They did an ultrasound, which came out normal. The Dr. did a hormone blood test at the beginning of my cycle (this came out normal too). However, I was given another blood test at ovulation- this one said I have very very low LH and Progeterone and am not ovulating.

I have very irregular bleeding from ovulation time to the start of my next period- my periods are very regular. I have been told by an Endocrinologist and my OBGYN that I do NOT have PCOS. However, I have been prescribed Metformin (2000mg per day) to "see if it helps", again I do not have pcos or problems with insulin. It seems to have helped me feel a little bit better (I get fatigued a lot) and has somewhat decreased my irregular bleeding + other symptoms. I am only one month in, but my temps are still out of wack and am still not ovulating.

I have a follow-up appointment with my OBGYN tomorrow morning. I am unsure of where to go from here. I am ready to conceive now and am tired of waiting and disappointment. I am considering Clomid, but am somewhat apprehensive. My husband is all for it. I am worried that the Clomid may not work, I would be devastated. I also don't like the thought of an "un-natural" conception- I guess I am just really sad that my body has let me down. At this point, I just don't feel like getting pregnant the natural way is going to happen anytime soon. Should I hold out and keep trying without Clomid and hope for luck in the coming months with Metformin alone? Or ask to be prescribed Clomid tomorrow? Someone would could share their personal experience would be very helpful : )

Thank you : )

  •   I responded well with a combination of metformin and clomid. Make sure your doctor monitors you while you are on clomid, because it can have some nasty side effects.  Good Luck with whatever you decide!

  • Thanks for your response. What kind of "natsty side effects"? Did you get them? My Dr. didn't mention this when we talked briefly about Clomid.

  • Clomid can mess with your lining, but more importantly it is possible for you to respond too well and have too many follicles.  If there are too many you will need skip the cycle.  I was mostly just really moody while I took clomid.
