Hi Pittsburgh Mamas!
My name is Katie and I live in Delaware, but we would loooove to move out of this BORING state! So far Pitt tops our list, but I was wondering- what do you love and hate about Pittsburgh?
We couldn't move anywhere until DH finds a job, which he won't even be looking for until maybe the end of winter since this is a busy time for us with baby #3 due any day now.
Anyway, thank you in advance for your responses!
Re: Thinking of Relocating to Pitt
I lived in Michigan for several years and just moved back, so I have a good perspective on this! Loves: Very friendly, down to earth people. Cool neighborhoods. Cool art scene. Economy not totally horrible.Good public transit (as long as they don't pass the awful cuts that have been suggested). Affordable.
Dislikes: State liquor stores (That's all of PA though), hilly terrain, narrow roads and highways.
Pittsburgh is a really great place to have a family IMO. There are affordable areas with good schools. It's a little big city really.
I am also a Michigan native that moved to Pittsburgh a little over a year ago. My husband and I lived in the city last year but most recently bought a house in Sewickley, which is a suburb in the North Hills.
There are definitely pros and cons to Pittsburgh. I didn't love it here at first but its growing on me. The people are INSANELY nice - people say hi to each other while walking down the streets. If you're looking to live in the city, there are tons of cute, trendy, hip neighborhoods but if you're looking to live in the 'burbs, there are a lot of really nice suburbs not too far outside the city.
I would say the biggest down side to Pittsburgh are the roads. It can be really confusing to drive in the city because there are so many bridges and hills and thus, crazy roads, but once you get used to it its fine. The suburb driving is normal
If you're looking for a big city with a small city feel in the midwest, Pittsburgh is a good choice.
Hope that helps!
