2nd Trimester

So tired of Insensitive comments...

So my big issue this pregnancy is my legs.  Only the right side has horrible spider veins and varicose veins.  I was at a family event today when one family tells another "Oh too bad she wore her compression hose, I wanted you to see her leg, I've never seen anything like it."  While my other family member reminds her that she has already seen it and asks why they can't do surgery on it while I'm pregnant?

So I already feel like a freak of nature and nobody is helping.  This paired with comments like, "Wow your really out there already and you still have so much longer to go."  Thanks, also really helpful.  Just needed to vent.

  • Wow, that totally sucks. I'm sorry you are having to go through that. Lame. I am very sensitive about my varicose vein issue as well :(

  • screw them! you are awesome, and growing a life right now! i commend you for not going off because i sure would have. (i have absolutely no control over my mouth right now) my grama said its okay to tell them to jump in a lake, she said do it with a smile!
  • I'm sorry you had to go through that. That is so rude!

This may sound a little kindergarten 101, but I find that going to the old standby of, "That hurts my feelings," or "That comment is hurtful" still works--even in adult conversations (repeat every single time, if needed). (Mentally healthy) adults generally do not like deliberately hurting others' feelings. Sometimes people get so caught up in themselves that they forget how unkind such comments are, and a firm but respectful reminder brings them back to the land of sanity and human decency and helps them to think before speaking.

  • Sometimes family members can be the rudest! Just try to laugh it off....Or ignore them altogether:)

  • Wow that is completely unacceptable!  Sometimes people think because they are related they can say whatever they want and they are exempt from hurting your feelings.  So not true...sometimes those are the ones that hurt the most!

Its those types of people that remind me of this great quote I heard once: Throw a flower at them.  Just make sure it's still in the flower pot!

  • Some people just don't know how to talk to pregnant women!

I posted a status on facebook about the baby turning my brain to mush because I've been so forgetful.  One of my cousins replied, "I don't mean to be rude, but why do you complain so much?  Do you even want this baby?  Do you know how many women are out there that can't have babies.  It just doesn't seem right for you to be blaming all of the mistakes you are making on your unborn baby."  Needless to say, she's not my facebook friend anymore and I don't plan on speaking to her for a long time.  (Yeah, I hold grudges!!)  I think we all need to get together and write a book called, "What Not to Say to Pregnant Women". :-)

  • I love my compression stockings, they make my legs feel soooo much better.  I'd just tell them, I wore them on purpose, so people couldn't make rude comments on my legs, I've been getting a lot of that lately, and see how they respond.

  • "What Not To Say To Pregnant Women".  Wow, I know several people I would give that to as a subtle gift.  Sounds like a best-seller to me!
  • It's either people are becoming completely rude and insensitive in today's society, or being pregnant makes you that much more sensitive.  Everyone at my work walks into my office and says "Awww I can see your pudge" or "You're startin to look pudgy!!"  Why is that appropriate to say?

  • I hate people and their big fat idiot mouths.

    The first one.

  • I cannot hold my mouth with rude people. I'd call up the rude family member and say, "Listen, I don't talk about your flat, saggy boobs because it's hurtful to you. You should have the same courtesy with my leg."
