In your opinon what is the best on-line picture sharing website? DH & I would like to start an album & just uploaded pictures which sends a link to family & friends letting them know there are new pics. Any recommendations? Thanks!
I love flickr. You can do editing through their site if you want, or just upload. I think they do have a monthly limit, but for something like $20/year, you can have unlimited sharing. I like how you can organize your photostream, and you can order prints through them as well.
They also have a very easy to use uploader which can be incorporated into iphoto if you have a mac.
The BEST is Shutterfly or Snapfish. With both of these sites, they have free unlimited storage! Just about every site that I know of has a data limit or you have to pay for more storage. Also, people can easily order prints from your site as can you. I prefer Shutterfly because they have really cute and customizable picture pages that you can create.
I usually have mine password protected but I took off the password for tonight so you can see what it looks like. Notice the tabs at the top are all my own tabs that I added, you can make it be however you want.
Thanks Sweets2005!! I just checked your site out & it looks great. This is exactly what we are looking for. Do you have to let people know to check the site or does it send a note to people once you have added pics?
Thanks, if you want feel free to password protect it again. Thanks!
You can do it several ways. You can make people "members" of your site and then they will receive updates at intervals that you select (every month or every time new content is added, etc) or you can just email people the link and leave it at that. That is what I do, because I didn't like the updates that it sent out. Every other month or so, I re-send the link (with a reminder of the password) to my family and tell them that I added new pics.

*butting in* Shutterfly is great for sharing, but not great for back-up. They resize your files down to 1600 pixels.
SmugMug, Zenfolio, and Flickr are much better alternatives. If you look around the web you'll find codes for SmugMug (there's a 50% one now if you sign-up with them on their iPhone app). Not sure about the others. I like SmugMug for backing up my video files too. Unlike YouTube, I can download the file if my external hard drive would happen to fail (and this happens to people often...I have experience).
You really should have more than one back-up. An external hard drive and a place online is a good idea.
Just a thought. Sorry to butt in on your board. lol
