Babies: 3 - 6 Months

pedialyte for 4 month old?

Hello!

I have a call into the pedi, but I figured I would ask here as well.  My DS is running a fever (not too high, running from 99.8-100.4 rectally)  He isn't grouchy, just sleeping more than usual.  I tried to feel him, he usually takes about 5 oz every 3 hours.  He had 4 oz around 9:30, and only had about 2 oz since then.

Has anyone ever given their baby pedialyte?  How much, how often?  I'm going to ask when the pedi calls back, but my DH is running out to the store now so I'm going to have him pick some up.

TIA!

  • it's pretty normal for a baby to eat less when they're sick. i wouldn't worry just yet.

  • our pedi suggested pedialyte when DS had a cold/fever (it was only 100). He took that much better than the formula actually. We gave 2-3 oz. 2x/day. I don't know what the recommended amt is, but that's what we did.

  • Our pedi said that if you can get LO to take any formula, it's better for them than the pedialyte.  DS was only taking about 2 oz at a time and the doc said that was fine while he was sick.  It only lasted about 12 hours and he started eating more.
