Curtains and/or Blinds

Hi! We currently don't have any curtains or blinds in the nursery and the sun can be pretty bright.  I know that I don't want anything with a pull cord for safety reasons.  What kind of window treatments are you using?  Are room darkening blinds necessary?  Thanks in advance!

    We recently replaced all the blinds throughout our entire house, including the nursery.  The pull cords aren't the old-fashioned looped ones, they're all individual cords, so I'm not too worried about it (also, the crib isn't on the wall where the window is, so it would be hard for LO to get to the cords for several years anyway).  We also intend to get black-out curtains for the nursery, since I can't sleep when it's light in my room, plus newborns sleep on and off all day, so being able to effectively darken the room during mid-day hours is important to me.

    We went with these blackout curtains from Target.  No pull cords.

    We have odd-shaped windows, thanks to a house built in 1952.  We got custom-made blinds.  They had loops on the bottom, but we cut them to make individual cords...and put beads on them.  They work well.

    We did a Roman shade in the baby's room. I ordered white (what I was thinking?!) and they actually block a lot of sunlight during the day compared to the blinds I had. They have cords but not looped. Just to ease my mind I am going to place a hook up high to wrap the cord around so it will not dangle.

    We have both blinds and curtains in the nursery.  When we moved into our house, we got blinds for all the windows, however, they do still let a lot of light in.  So I recently bought and put up a curtain with a darkening shade in the nursery so it will be really dark in the room.  If you have to pick one, I'd go with the curtain with darkening.
