I've been posting about this a lot lately, but DS has struggled with severe constipation since he was a baby (he just turned 2 last month) and the doctors can't seem to figure out how to manage it. We've tried Miralax (he's been on it daily for ten months), suppositories, prunes, juice, increasing fiber, lots of fluids (he already drinks a lot of water), etc. and nothing. He already takes three fiber gummies a day too. This is something he really struggles with every single day.
Since he really hasn't pooped since last Saturday, other than a tiny nugget or two, I went out to buy an enema. He's been straining and trying every day, his belly feels a little hard. I couldn't find a pediatric enema, though on the Pedilax website it says they carry it at Target and my local pharmacy. I asked both pharmacists who said they don't carry enemas for children. I decided I would try the liquid suppository, although we've tried the capsule suppositories and they rarely produce a BM for DS. We did the liquid suppository about an hour ago and just a couple of wet farts, but not BM. I don't know what to do anymore to manage his constipation. Nothing is working! I'm going to be talking to his pedi and his pedi GI and try to come up with a new game plan. There has to be something that works for DS.
Re: DS still hasn't pooped
You may be thinking about me (the OP). The day after DS's barium enema, we decided to try the fiber gummies. Because he was having several messy, loose stools a day, we thought the fiber gummies were our miracle we were looking for. We even stopped the Miralax. I was so happy. But, that only lasted for a week. What I thought was the fiber gummies working appears to have been him getting cleaned out from the barium enema. That's what I thought after a day or two, but when he was still pooping regularly by the end of that week, I assumed it was the fiber gummies working and posted about how awesome they were. Unfortunately, after about a week, we were back to the horrible constipation again, even with a capful of Miralax a day and three fiber gummies.
