NBR: scared being home alone

My DH and I just moved into a house from an apartment.  Ever since we have moved I'm scared to be in the house by myself with LO.  I am always afraid that someone is in here and I am soley responsible for LO's well being.  When we moved we tripled our square footage so it would take forever for me to check each room everytime I came home.  Any help, suggestions, or words of support would help so much!

Thanks!

  • I know how you feel. I just get so creeped out when I'm alone sometimes. I actually don't feel as creeped out with LO is with me.  I'd always feel better if I came in the house on the phone and walked around and checked on things. I know that's not much help, but I feel for ya.

  • Haha I'm a total chicken like this.  You can't check each room every time you come home but as long as you keep the windows and doors locked, you'll be fine.  Odds are good nobody is ever going to break in anyway Smile  Keep your cell phone on you if you're freaked out too.  You'll probably never need to but it helps to know you can call for help immediately on the off chance you need it.

  • I'm the same way, but I was a lot worse vefore LO arrived.  My DH has been gone for over 8 weeks so I had to get used to it pretty fast.  He travels a lot for business, so we invested in a security system!  I just keep as many lights on as I can till right before I fall asleep, so people know that someone is home.  Then when I go to sleep I leave on a light in the main floor!
  • I understand your being scared.  I have always had an alarm system that I set when I leave the house or when I go to bed and I'm alone with the kids.  You can make the alarm as simple or as sophisticated as you feel comfortable with.  It makes a world of difference with your sense of well being.

ETA-I'm super excited for you guys to beat Texas tomorrow....Go Huskers!!!

  • I get creeped out when here alone too. When DH leaves check all the doors and windows and right it down if you must. Then relax. Have a cell phone close by.
