Fort Carson

Hey ladies,

I was just hoping that you all could recommend a couple off base places to rent in the Fort Carson area.  H and I are moving to the area around the 1st of November.

Thank you all in advance for your help!

Re: Fort Carson

  • Well it's going to depend on what you're willing to pay and how far away you want to be.  I loved the northeast part of town (east of Powers and north of Constitution), but the rent is higher up there, and it's a good 30-40 minute drive to Carson.  I hear that living in Fountain is nice, but I don't know from experience.  Really, you're going to want to actually drive around and look at places.  There are good and bad places to live all over town here, and they're not really condensed to specific areas.  Well, they kind of are, but it's not cut and dry.  I don't know how to explain it.  LOL

One of the other reasons you're going to want to see places for yourself is the roads in the winter.  You may find the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood... but it's on the top of a really steep, curvy hill in both directions.  Keep in mind that they don't plow the neighborhood streets, just the main roads, so that steep curvy hill could be a NIGHTMARE when your H has to leave for work at 5am and it's still iced over.  And unfortunately Carson doesn't close down very often for bad weather.  I think my H had maybe 2-3 days off work last winter, and a handful of late mornings, and that was it.  If the road conditions on Carson are good (and they're usually a lot better than the rest of Colorado Springs since it's so far south) then post is open and work goes on.  Even if you live up north and the roads suckass up there.  ;)

  • I lived in Mountain View apts.  They were nice and really close to Ft. Carson.  It was on Westmeadow dr and South Academy.  Any apts in that area is a great area.  (South/west area)

  • Colorado Springs is large and as such, there are many different areas to live and each area will have its pros and cons.  Fountain, Security, Widefield, and southern Colorado Springs will be the areas closest to the base (in case commute is something you are looking at).  The central and northern parts of town also get more and worse weather IMO then the southern part (I lived there for almost 12years). It is also going to depend on what type of housing you are looking for (apartment, duplex, single family housing, etc.) and if you care about the school district.

You may want to look at the AHRN website, another one for military house renting (I don't remember the name of it sorry), and various property management websites to get an idea of what is available and rents for those areas.  www.gazette.com is the website for the main newspaper there.  You may also want to check those classifieds.

  • Speaking of property management... stay away from Clemente.  I'm sure there are others to stay away from as well, but from personal experience I can say don't even bother with them.
  • https://www.ahrn.com/    A friend of mine who's husband is in the Marines told me about this...she used it to find her house when they were relocated. good luck!

  • I live in Fountain and I like it here. We bought a townhouse. Its still close to everything when you need it without being right in the middle of all the traffic. Sometimes it can take me 15-30 minutes to get to work 4 miles from my house...I know pathetic lol

I used to live in the Northeast part of town, right off Powers and Stetson Hills. Love it, except it was far for hubby to go to work and the traffic sucks [especially snow days]. And now that I work on base[and pregnant] I'm SOOOOO happy that we live in Fountain.  You could try the website AHRN.com and do a few searches. [thats how we got our first rental house].

I'm not on here often, I'm pretty new to this...But Good Luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!
