Flu shot or flu mist?

Which do you get for your DC?  We have the option, and I am not sure I am sold on the FluMist.  I know it spares DD another shot, but I am so on the fence.  Not immunizing is not an option for us.  I get exposed at work continually, and it is too easy to bring it home to her.  I am curious as to what others who immunize their kids for flu are choosing, and why.

  • We did the mist on our pedi's recommendation.

  • We chose the shot.  When I scheduled the appt the nurse questioned me a lot about whether DS had asthma since his chart is clearly riddled with info about his nebulizer treatments.  If you have asthma you should not get flumist.  He does not have asthma, but since Caleb had been having some respiratory symptoms (but no fever or signs of infection) and we are currently on a nebulizer regimen, we went with the shot.  He had to get another one anyway.  If he was an otherwise healthy kiddo, I wouldn't have had a problem getting the flumist.  I wish my work did flumist....my dang arm still hurts!

  • Not that we noticed! She has to get another one next month since she didn't get h1n1 last year.

  • We did the shot.

Poor little guy didn't get his 2nd h1n1 vax last year, so we have to go in for shot #2.  I feel guilty about not getting it done last year, but it just got away from us...

  • Good to know.  Thanks for the advice.  I am going to go do some research so I can figure it out.  It is good to hear experiences with the mist as well.

Same here.  No side effects here, either.  In fact, on the way home she said she "had a good time."

  • We did the shot this year and will probably switch to the mist next year when DS is 3.  We had the option but I prefered the shot.
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!

DS born 2.14.08. DD born 9.30.09.

  • We did the mist on the pedi's recommendation also.  She told us she feels it's a bit more effective.  Justin had it last year, got the H1N1 vax last year as a mist (twice), and then this year's as a mist.  No side effects any time.  DH and I both got the mist last year when we got our H1N1 vaccine.  Nice not to have the muscle ache.

DH got the mist last year and ended up having flu-like symptoms for a few days.
