I went to a maternity fair on post on Saturday (Fort Bragg) and found they have a new maternity thing they are trying out. Its a class like setting you go to each month and meet with other moms due the same month as you. There is a doctor there to see you if anything happens or you have ?ions, but for the most part you are in charge of your health care. They teach you to take and track your vitals and you talk to the other moms about things that have helped them with things you have going wrong and so on. I think I am going to try this. You can still get in and see a dr if you get sick or something so I see no problem with it.
Re: Centering (anyone else post doing this?)
they have this at our base and I opted out. I want to be able to see my doctor, not a bunch of 18 year old girls who are pregnant biitching about nausea and heartburn.
Its up to you, but its not a great as it sounds. I went to several group appointments in alaska and it was lame-O.
Best of luck!!
This really does sound like it could put you at risk. And great point about the group of 18-year-old girls! There are so many different risks and issues associated with pregnancy that I would definitely want to have time to sit and talk with my doctor about. It's great to chat with other moms-to-be about your issues but that's what chat rooms like this are for. You go to a doctor because they're the experts at making sure everything is going well with your pregnancy.
It's a cool idea for a support-type group, but no way to receive prenatal care...
here at ft sam, its a 2 hour appointment with a few other women...it supposedly reduces preterm labor, although how im not sure...they do regular measurements (belly, weight, other vitals) as a group, but US individually...
here they dont have you do your own vitals, and they group you with women/couples who are due around the same time as you...
