A previous poster asked the difference between two medical facilities to deliver, so I'm trying to get some info. about delivering at Kaiser.
Our insurance is Kaiser, so I don't have a choice to go anywhere else. With a previous employer, I was able to go to Women's Healthcare Assoc and I loved it, wish I could go there, but what can ya do?
Anyway, I'm also planning a natural birth. I have only one friend who has delivered at Kaiser (Sunnyside location), she wanted a natural birth but was forced to have a c-section due to some complications.
Has anyone had a natural delivery through Kaiser? I'm curious to see if they are the type of provider to get their patients in and out quickly which usually means they push for epis and c-sections. Any tips or birth stories associated with Kaiser would be appreciated! I plan on speaking to my midwife during my next appointment as well.
Thanks ladies
Re: Drug-free delivery @ Kaiser
I don?t have personal experience, but according DHS statistics Sunnyside had a cesarean rate of 21% last year, which is lower than most, if not all, other hospitals in the metro area. It could be that they transfer high-risk cases to other hospitals, but it certainly doesn?t look like they are a baby factory. Honestly, Kaiser is probably most interested in avoiding unnecessary C-sections. They are a lot more expensive than vaginal births. There?s no surgeon, the hospital stay is generally shorter, etc.
The best thing you can do to have a med-free birth is delay going to the hospital for as long as possible. No matter where you go, you?re more likely to go med-free if you stay at home through most of your labor.
Thank you, Ladies for all the great information. It makes me feel more confidant that my experience at Kaiser will be a positive one. So far my check-ups with the midwife at Kaiser have been great. I've just heard a lot of horror stories from women who wanted a natural birth and were pressured into getting epis at various hospitals. I'm all for a c-section if it is absolutely necessary to my health and my babie's health.
Thanks again!!
