MIL did something creepy......

So my MIL is a bit of a nutjob, who's isn't? She's a serious mental case though. Today she proceeds to tell me about some ring she had custom made for herself.

She states it has my DH's birthstone, her mother's birthstone and LO's POSSIBLE birthstone (he's due Nov. 26th) surrounded on each end by HER birthstone.

She said she did it that way because she is "protector of her family".

Um, LO is mine and DH's son, that is our family and me and DH are the 'protectors' of our family. Not loony MIL. I wanted LO born in December anyways but now I REALLY hope he is so her stupid ring can't be applied to him.

I don't even know if I should feel grateful or annoyed that I wasn't included as her "family". I told my mom about it and she agrees that it's a bit creepy and seems like it has Lifetime movie potential. Yikes.

    tI'm sorry about your crazy MIL but this made me LOL!  I hope your LO is born in Dec too, That woman is loony!!

    Hold that baby in!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is to hoping for a December baby!!! That would be priceless.

    My MIL said she was the "matriarch" of all of us and that we all have to listen to her. Um, ok! Whatevers.

    Wow... thats crazy! Here's to hoping your LO decides to be born in Dec.

    It would make sense if she did it kinda as a generation thing but the way she did it and described it is wierd! The whole, "protector of her family" thing threw it way overboard. Good luck with that one! Not to cause you to be uncomfortable but I hope LO is born in December!

    LOL!  The way she describes it is very creepy and loony.  BUT, I in no way think that a grandmother having her granchildren's stones in her mother's ring is creepy.  Good luck with that one :)

    haha! That's crazy creepy!! I hate to say it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one w/ a crazy MIL (I have 2 crazy MILs actually, his step-mom and his mom are BOTH crazy)... If it makes you feel any better, I came out of my house the other day and to my surprise my MIL was PAINTING MY FRIGGIN' HOUSE!!!! yes... really.

     I'm due November 26 also, I find it sad that I haven't even thought of the possibility of my baby being a December baby.

    I guess the only part that I find really weird is what happens if she has other grandchildren? Does she make another ring?  And why not just wait until the baby arrives so she'll be sure to have the right stone?

    Ha ha!! I hope LO is born Dec 1st!!

    I was due with DS on Jan 10th and didn't get any birthstone stuff because he might've come early! He did arrive Jan 2nd, so it was close!

    The whole thing is weird. If your MIL was so anxious to get the ring already he should have gone with everyone's horoscope stone. Sagitarius for your baby is a safe bet, not November.

    I used to work for a jewelry store and it's not uncommon for "mothers rings" to turn into "grandmother's rings" or "family rings" with just stones of their own children and grandchilren (the daughter in laws or son in laws usually get excluded I dont know why, they just do) the whole "protector of the family" is the only part of this that is creepy

    Not that I think OP's MIL is not creepy, but I can see how it would get overwhelming to include so many stones. For instance, my mom has three kids, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren, so that would be 8 stones right there and that's a bit much IMO.
