Help solve this mystery (stains on Cal's sheets)

This morning while I was drying my hair Cal kept grabbing the cord, so I decided to put him in his crib for a few mins w/ some books.  When I went to do so, I noticed some pinkish stains on the sheet up near the headboard.  They were dry.  The only thing I could think of that would be that color is watery blood.  Like maybe if his mouth had been bleeding and he drooled so it dried pinkish (perhaps he/we cut him while brushing his teeth)?  Or even vomit/spitup, I suppose.  Couldn't be a nosebleed b/c it would have been a lot darker.

He slept in his crib last night until about 1am and then came in w/ us (been doing this a lot while teething).  I checked our sheets and there was no sign of stain there.

We do have a cat who vomits a lot, so it could have been her, but I've never seen her in his crib.  (and if it was dry that means it would have happened last night before he went to bed and we just didn't notice when putting him to bed - yuck).

He ate beets last night and they can make your pee turn pink, so maybe he was turned around in bed and had a diaper leak, but I would have noticed other signs of a diaper leak (on his jammies)...that wasn't the case.

He never gets food or water in his bed.

I'm so perplexed.  Any guesses as to what it is?

Re: Help solve this mystery (stains on Cal's sheets)

  • my guess is bloodly salvia from teething. When they are cutting molars their gums can bleed some, and he probably just drooled it out.  Since you said he was up at 1 with teething, this is my guess.

  • sounds like watery blood to me. Does he have a runny nose at all? Sometimes I notice a stain like that when my kids have runny  noses and it is from them rubbing to hard and nose bleeds a little but with the snot is is watery!

  • I think the beets are the culprit. Kids store food in their mouths like chipmunks. Maybe there was still some beet in his mouth then mixed with some drooling=pink stain??

  • I was thinking beet drool as well

  • beets or teething would be my guesses too!

btw- love that he is counting!!! sooooooo cute!! didn't get a chance to comment on FB!!! love it!!!

  • Beet drool is my guess.

    Teething is my second guess.

  • This exact same thing has happened with Jude before.  99.9999% positive it's bloody drool from cutting a tooth.
