Does the Chicco keyfit 30 really not fit on a shopping cart?

I was going to do my first grocery run today with Z so I goggled my carseat and "shopping cart" to see how to put it on there.  All the links I found say this is unsafe and that my carseat, the Chicco keyfit, is not made to sit up on the shopping cart.

Great.  So where do I put Z and where do I put my groceries?

I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

  • No it does not fit.  I would put the car seat in the cart area and put the groceries in the seat area and around the car seat.  There is no big shopping with that car seat!!

I have two now and have no idea how to do grocery shopping with it.  There are so many things I wish I had know about that car seat before I bought it.  They say it does not fit for safety purposes.  When you have LO#2 you will find that it does not into most double stroller either because it is missing that indentation that allows it to fit in the shopping cart.

    Good luck!

  • Nope doesnt fit its not made to fit that way.  Its a safety thing.  I either put DD in the larger part of the cart and buy minimal things or I wear her and do a full shopping.  I also have a toddler so he will go in the attached part of the cart and she goes in the larger part.

  • Grrr.

Thanks for the tips ladies.  I do have a sling, but I don't use it much and I am a little nervous to use it in the store.  I should practice at home so for my next trip I can just wear him.  For now I think it's going to be whatever I can fit in the cart around him.

    ::sigh::

  • Technically, none of the car seats are safe to put on the cart.

We just put her in the buggy and pile groceries around her.

picturing loaves of bread, milk, eggs and other items with two little eyes peeping out "hey i am down here" underneath the bread.  (we do the same thing) as much as we can pile around her.

we have the bjorn she loves it.  It took a lot of practice with DH helping me put it on where i would feel comfortable doing it myself.  But now i have the carrier in my car at all times so either me or DH can wear her if she doesnt want to be in the seat.  Just practice it will make it easier to go shopping regardless.

  • I put LO in the Moby Wrap while I shop. Technically a car seat should never be placed on the seat of a shopping cart-- check out this article.

  • Nope doesn't fit. Do you have the stroller too? I put the groceries in the bottom basket of the stroller. I've also used the reusable grocery bags before purchase to help carry stuff.

No big shopping. Highly suggest a sling though.

  • I have a Graco Snugride and I shopped once with him on the seat part of the cart and honestly, I was really uncomfortable with it!  I was so nervous the seat would fall off.  Next time I think I'm going to wear him.
  • DH and I shop together - and one of us wears DD in the Ergo...

  • I just went grocery shopping today.  I put DS in the actual carriage and by the end, he's covered in groceries. haha.  I should have taken a picture.  He looked so cute snoozing with english muffins and crackers in his lap.  Don't forget about the bottom shelf of the shopping cart.  You can put all the big stuff down there and piles bags down there when you're done at the check out.
