Can anyone make a recommendation for a mohel in the Baltimore- Annapolis region that will perform circumcision for a non-jewish couple. We will be having a homebirth, so we don't have the option of having this done in the hospital, and my pediatrician does not perform this. We've noted that the complication rates are much lower when mohels perform this surgery rather than a doctor, and that they usually will come to your house.

Re: Mohel for non-jewish circumcision?
Perhaps you mean rather than an OB? My DS's circ was done by a urologist. He is in Annapolis and he is fantastic. If we have any more boys he will do theirs as well. A lot of people go this route when they don't give birth in the hospital. Unless you are stuck on someone coming to your home to do it? I know nothing about mohels though. Sorry. Let me know if you would like the name of the urologist.
I have to go through my bookmarks, I know someone who used one near Annapolis, but I found out I was having a girl and lost the info.
I'll edit when I find it, she really liked this mohel. Neither parent had to be jewish
Okay, I believe it was this person

She said the baby didn't even cry, they held him the entire time, needed no drugs or numbing agents and it took a few seconds.
Anyone have any idea how much this costs? My brother and sister-in-law live in Canada and it isn't covered under their insurance because it isn't medically necessary. They would have to take him to a urologist up there and it will cost $500+ (Canadian).
I believe there is an OB in Towson who is a mohel who will do them, but you go to his office I believe.
Also like mrs.remy we had our DS's done by a urologist (same one.) I had DS in a birth center and midwives don't do them, but even if I had had DS w/ an OB I would have gone to either a urologist or this dr. up in Towson.

Brady, I sent you a PM!
Dr Steven adashek is both a doctor and a mohel.. he was my previous OB.. his number is (410) 296-8001
Thanks ladies - this is all great info - please keep the referrals coming. We will plan to check out/contact all of these fine recommended practitioners.
Mrs. remy - please do send me the contact info of your urologist in Annapolis. And I did in fact mean all doctors. While the complication rate is very low to begin with, my research has determined that the rate is the absolute lowest with a mohel above any medical practitioner - be it OB or urologist. Go figure. But I would like urology recommendations too in the case that our insurance will cover this -- I have a PPO that covers many things.
sent you a PM!
This is who a friend of mine went to for her 2nd son. I considered it, I believe he's up in Towson and I wasn't too thrilled w/ the idea of going for such a long car ride for the occasion.
Hi,
Not sure if you're still checking this thread, but I second Rabbi Rappaport. We're not Jewish and he was more than willing to come to our house and work with us. My son did cry, but it was very fast and my mother, who's a pediatrician, was very impressed!
