Poly Vitamin Drops with Fluoride

Does anyone give Poly Vitamin Drops with Fluoride Supplement Drops with Iron to there LO? DD's Dr. prescribed this for her since we don't have fluoride in our water. The only problem is that it smells awful, tastes bad and is a dark color. There is no way I can give this to her in the syringe. I tried mixing it in with applesauce and it made that taste bad. DD refused it. Any suggestions on how I should attempt to give this to her? Or is there something else that is similar that doesn't taste so bad?

Re: Poly Vitamin Drops with Fluoride

  • Hmmm...we mix DS's with applesauce. How about mixing it with a baby food puree of some sort?

  • my DS just takes the plain sodium fluoride drops and they are peach flavored which he doesn't seem to mind.  You can always ask the pharmacist to flavor them next time you get them filled.

  • They smell so bad!!! I think there is a chewable form for when kids get older and I am so excited for those.

In the meantime, I mix with pudding in his afternoon snack.  He eats it without a problem!

  • I will have to try the pudding suggestion. DD refuses to eat pur?e baby food, so that wont work. Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I can't wait until DD can have the chewables!

  • Oh, a tip for mixing it in:  Just mix it in the very top layer on one side.  That way, you can do a bite of the vitamin part and then a bite of the regular part to keep her interest.   You don't want to contaminate the whole pudding cup!

  • DS just takes it straight up out of the dropper. It does stain so make sure you use a bib when giving it.
  • I think it smells and tastes terrible, but DD LOVES it.  Her eyes light up when she sees the dropper.  She was wary the first time, but she always is about new food.  I'd try a few more times.  I've heard from other people that their kids love it also.
