I never expected my "friends" to be so pushy when it came to baby names. DH and I have liked Myla Grace (like Lyla only with an M) all along. We've also toyed with Savannah & Lilly or Lillian.
Everyone outside of our household has said they either like Savannah or Lilly, which is fine but I keep going back to Myla. "it sounds like a mylar balloon" "it sounds like a dog name" "it sounds made up" My only issue with it is that I will never be able to find anything with her name printed on it. I'm not sure that's enough to keep me from using a name I like.
My "BFF" who said it sounds like a dog name, named her daughter Taylor Blaze. I thought it sounded like a stripper name but I kept my mouth shut.
WWYD? Do you think I will forever be defending her name or do you think once she's here people will just deal with it?

Re: I wish I hadn't told anyone our names
OMG Taylor Blaze, I think calling it a stripper name is kind... sounds more like someone who made the move to films. What does Chris Rock say? The job of a parent is to keep a girl off the pole.
Yes, don't tell anyone your names. But now that you have, just ignore them, or make up new ones for fun!!! Craaaaazy ones.
Pomegranate Paloma?
Sulla Sadie?
I think it's a pretty name. My only bone with it is that it reminds me of Miley and I'm NOT a fan of that name.
But if you really like it, go with it! Your kid- not theirs!!! : ) GL deciding and sorry people are giving you a rough time.
Actually, the more I think about this, with the internet and sites like Etsy, you can easily customize gifts. You just won't be able to find that Hard Rock Cafe shot glass with her name on it.
Growing up- I never had anything with my name printed on it (like from the beach and stuff) and I never really cared.
I thought it was cooler that when I was in school I was just "Juliet", not "Ashley H or Sarah M or Mary L". My husband hates how common his name is and says how annoying it is that even as an adult, at work he's Dave L because there's 5 other Dave's in his department!
And Taylor Blaze does sound like a stripper, haha.
When we told my Mom our little boy's name she wrinkled her nose and said "It sounds like you're just pronouncing Larson wrong..." I said, "Excellent, well that's his name so you should probably get over that..." :-P
It reminds me of Miley too! But really, name your kid what you want. Once the baby is here and officially named Myla, it'll grow on your friends. I think right now they think they can influence you to change it, so they're giving you feedback. If you had waited until she was born to reveal the name, your friends probably wouldn't have said anything about the name. Just ignore them.
What? That makes no sense! Lawson is a name I've actually heard of, but I've never heard of someone named Larson. lol
And I totally agree with the importance of a unique/less popular name. I'm a Jennifer born in the mid 80's....one of MANY.
Ginny DX 21-Hydroxylase Deficiency Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia
Charlie DX Specific Antibody Deficiency & ASD
I like Myla. It's really cute and different enough to be unique without being strange. People will come around when they see your beautiful girl and in no time it'll seem like the only name in the world for her.
Our name story is that my sister told my dad we were naming the baby Veronica (after I specifically told her not to tell anyone). Well, he misheard or wasn't listening and thinks we're naming her Victoria. I corrected him, but I'm pretty sure he'll keep getting it wrong. My only hope is that he comes up with a cute nickname for her right away the way did when I was born.
Wouldn't have said anything to your face that is. We as women still tend to judge.... right?!? At least though you wouldn't have heard anything to your face. They will settle down once she's here and my guess would be that you'll still probably hear some" Oh but she looks like a lillian." Oh well. Your baby. They'll deal.

this is the exact reason why we're not telling anyone our lo's name yet. i think ppl are less likely to to say negative things about our babys name if hes already born and its on the birth certificate...because it cant be changed. i think ppl are more likely to pretend they like the name even if they hate it. i know other ppls comments shouldnt matter but c'mon...it is annoying as hell!
btw, myla grace is a beautiful name!
