School-Aged Children

What do your kids have for snacks AT school?

Do you send them or does your childs teacher provide them?

L's teacher charges a $10 snack fee each month.  For the first 2wks or so I asked L every day after school what his snack was.  Every now and then he will tell me or I ask him.  Here are some examples of his snacks.

Cheese It crackers

Gold Fish crackers

Fruit Roll up

Fruit snacks

Crackers with the cheese the put on with a stick (handi snacks?)

The ONE day the reviewed A they had red, green and yellow apple slices

Ice cream

Cookies

Does this sound like what your kids get for afternoon snack?

Re: What do your kids have for snacks AT school?

  • MY DD is in 2nd grade so now we have to send her a snack if she wants to have one but in Kindergarten we had days assigned to us to send a snack for the whole class.  It usually worked out to about once a month. Anyways yes those all sound like the snacks she would get.

    Thanks!

    BTW  I Love your baby's name!! :)

If we have another boy we are considering Logan to go with Jarrett as a mn.  :)  Jarrett was my brothers mn and we will use it in memory of him.   Only reason Logan isnt set in stone is because we arent sure how we like Landon and Logan together.  Part of me says ehhh...the other part says they are too close.  (Landon is our ds #1)

  • In kindergarten the classroom did a community snack. We were responsible for a week of snacks at a time. Our school district has guidelines for nutrition and didn't want a specific amount of sugar+ in the snacks. So, we'd send salted pretzels, goldfish, animal crackers and things like that.

Now that he's in 1st grade, his teacher allows them to have individual snacks. He can have anything except for sticky things such as fruit roll-ups. We send those Starkist snacks or a baggy of goldfish, granola bar, etc.

Thanks!  I don't think Landon and Logan sound bad together!  What are your girls names?  Mine is Haley

  • That sounds similar to what the snacks were like at my kids' preschool.

I have to send a snack for DS because their lunch is so early.  I generally send chewy granola bars, dried fruit, apple slices, or fig newtons.

    DD, born 9/06/00 -- 12th grade
    DS, born 8/25/04 -- 7th grade
  • I send them.  It ranges from fruits to animal crackers, gold fish, granola bars, graham crackers.  Not the best stuff but not horrible either.

  • I provide my daughter with snacks at school but it's always fruits, veggies, preztels, fresh cheese & crackers such as low salt wheat thins or triscuits, organic chips or cheese doodles. Never ice cream, fruit roll ups or fruit snacks, that's just junk to me. Those types of foods are treats in my household.
