Carrier Suggestion for a mom who loves the Moby and hates the Bjorn

DS loves being in the Moby, but as he's getting bigger, I'm thinking we need something more substantial and I was thinking about an Ergo.  I have a Bjorn but as my title says, I hate it.  I don't like how much weight is put on my shoulders/back and just find it uncomfortable.  I want to be able to wear him on the front of me or on my back.  Any suggestions?  If you suggest the Ergo, which one do you have?

TIA!

(I'm making a xmas list to give to my parents, so I wouldn't even be wearing him in this until he's about 6-7 months old if that makes a difference)

  • We love our Pikkolo. I got it from Amazon.com. It's more versatile than the Ergo in that you can wear the baby facing out.

  • I have the basic Ergo and love it.  It's less bulky than the Bjorn, more comfortable, and better for LO's hips.  Like pp said you can't do forward facing, but since that's not really recommended and not something we do it wasn't an issue for me.  DD likes to be able to hide her face if strangers get too close :)

  • We are starting to use our Ergo and really loving it! I still love my moby, but DD is starting to get heavy!

I'd also look into a Baby Hawk or Becco. I want them both :)

The girls on th Attachment Parenting board are really helpful and knowledgable about carriers...

  • I've heard great things about the Ergo and Beco carriers.  I'm planning to find a store where I can try them out with DS to decide which one I like best.

  • I'll echo the positive comments about the Ergo. We (particularly my husband) love it. My favorite is my woven wrap... it's the same idea as a Moby only it's not stretchy so it's very supportive all the way through toddlerhood. So if you liked the wrapping style of the Moby then I definitely suggest a woven. They're very comfortable... and, not to mention, beautiful!

This blog has TONS of info on different carriers. As PP mentioned, check out the AP board too!

  • Well here's the thing- I love the Ergo & DD used to, but now not so much.  She likes outward facing carried in the Moby so when I put her in the Ergo she fusses now.  She wants to face out, period.  I think I am going to have to get a woven wrap so it has more support, but I can do more options with carrys.

  • You could get a woven wrap.  It offers a little more versatility than a structured carrier would.  There's a bit more of a learning curver though.  Definitely check on the AP board.  There are some baby wearing experts over there.
  • I would 2nd the woven suggestion. I have both the Ergo and a woven and I find myself using the woven a TON! It takes a little getting used to, but if you like your Moby, you will love a woven. And the AP board will help you out a ton. :)
  • I have the Beco Gemini and LOVE it! I can carry DD in front facing in or out and she's comfy and so am I. She's fallen asleep a few times facing in and once facing out - she loves it. You can also do a back and a hip carry with the Gemini but I haven't tried those yet.
  • I second the beco Gemini. I can wear DS facing out, in, on back or hip. It's telly comfy for both me and him with great back support. It also fits my small frame better than the ergo.

  • Ohhhhh I so want the Beco Gemini!

  • Wow- okay, so many ideas!  Thanks ladies!  I'll head over the the AP board and see what they suggest but it sounds like a lot of you like the Ergo, Beco, and woven wraps (that Pikkolo wrap looked nice too).
