2nd Trimester

Weight gain at 20 weeks......

How much has everyone gained at the 20 week mark?  I know it's hard to compare, as we are all different and have different pregnancies, but I'm just curious.  I have gained 14 lbs and feel like that is a lot.  I'm short, 5'1, and started at 115, so 14 lbs seems like a lot for me.  Just wondering what is going on w/ others.....

  • Like you said in your post, the weight gain is just such a varied subject that it is hard to compare. If you are overweight to start you are only supposed to gain around 15 pounds but if you are underweight they want you to gain 35-45 pounds.

My weight gain is a little complicated b/c I lost about 16 pounds the first 4 months due to severe hyperenemis. Now I have gained back all of that but 7 pounds so I am down from my prepregnancy weight but I have gained some weight..

  • I'll be 20 weeks tomorrow, but I've gained 12.5 lbs so far. Perfectly normal!

  • I lost 12 pounds in my first 16 weeks, thanks to my metabolism kicking.  Since then, I have gained 1.5 pounds back.

  • With my son I had gained about a lb by that point. This time I've gained 18, which is under doctor's orders to basically fatten up because of twins.
  • I'm up 6-7, depending on the day.  With my son I was up at least 10 by now and went on to only gain 23...so don't worry if you have gained more than you'd like.  Just cut a few snacks/desserts out here and the for the rest of the pregnancy and you'll be fine!

  • As opposed to most posts about weight this post doesn't make me crazy; it's so silly when people post about weight gain without stating their starting weight or general size. It's pointless to compare anyway but in your case you wouldn't want to feel like you're gaining too much when unknowingly comparing yourself to someone who is overweight to begin with and says they only gained 6lbs.

Anyway, I am about 5'5 and started at 124 and gained about 19lbs by that point. In the 2nd tri it all evened out and your body is just doing what it needs to do.

Thanks for this calculator. It's awesome!

  • I'm around 5'5" and weighed about 160 prepregnancy. So far I've lost about 5 lbs, but I was probably considered a little overweight to begin with. My doctor wasn't worried at my last appt. but if I still haven't gained any at my 19 week appt, I'm not sure what he'll say. I'm hoping to only gain a max. of 20 lbs this pregnancy.
  • 5'3" starting wait was 115 lbs.  Have gained almost 4 lbs.  Second pregnancy and I am 20 weeks 4 days today.

  • I'm 20 wks in a few days, and have gained 4.5 lbs. I was 5'0" and 135, so a little overweight, to begin with.
