Infertility

waking up in the middle of the night... WDYD?

I can't possibly be the only one plagued by stress that (is presumably what) causes me to get up every morning at 3:30, though I am completely exhausted...

If you get up in the middle of the night, what do you do?  Lay in bed, get up (if you do, what do you do?), are you able to fall back to sleep?  Guess it's time to turn up the yoga and acu practice...  Any tips welcome. :)

  • I am having the same issue. I have been waking up around 3am.. I get up at 5am to workout every morning so waking up around 3am is a bigger downer!!

Lately, I have been counting sheep for 2hrs until 5am to workout.  By 8pm I am a walking zombie!!

Hope you can figure it out..

  • I usually just lay there.  Sometimes if I can't get back to sleep because I just can't get comfortable I'll get up and do some stretches.

I used to use Valerian root (natural herb that my nuerologist said was fine) to help get back to sleep, but obviously I wouldn't take anything while cycling.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I do the same.  I wake up around 430-5, alarm set at 6 and just ly there.  The other night I was upset about the fertility coverage on the nest board, last night I was just really sad about ivf failure.  But other times I think about if my ovaries will respond and the new neds.

I don't really do anything but I am going to try acupuncture

  • I made a playlist on my ipod of ocean sounds and rain sounds. I just put the playlist on when I can't fall back to sleep on my own. I also use some relaxation techniques from Alice domar book"Conquering Infertility" It always works for me.

  • I am a terrible sleeper, always have been.  This is going to sound really nerdy, but I always have a book on tape on my ipod and I listen to that while I lie there.  It works every time.

When I wake up, my mind is always racing and listening to a book stops it and I almost always fall right  back to sleep.

    Good luck!

  • Go to itunes, go to podcasts, find a couple free guided meditations that you like, load them up and have them loaded and ready to play before bed, put by your bed with headphones and when you wake up and can't go back to sleep play one of them and you should fall back to sleep and have a great rest of the night :)  (I really like the meditations that are not only guided but also have a little music or something playing in the background).   You can get free podcasts or there are a couple of apps out there.   GL!

  • Fortunately I usually don't have trouble sleeping, although I have had to take Tylenol PM at times through IF to be able to get to sleep at night.  I've read that it's best not to lie in bed awake for more than 20-30 minutes because then your bed becomes associated with tossing and turning instead of sleeping.  I think you are supposed to get up out of bed and do something relaxing like read a boring book or listen to one of the meditation tapes like some of the previous posters mentioned.  Then when you get sleepy, you are supposed to go back to bed.

Hope you got some suggestions that are helpful for you!
