I'm still trying to make sense of all my odd medical thingies.... on their own, they don't mean much. Lay all those pieces out on the table, it means something. I say. lol.
strange reactions to some bug bites, odd histimine-related rashes, severe itchy scalp that comes and goes with a pattern, odd bumps at the base of my thumbs that get water blisters sometimes...and then there's the whole Lupus/auto-immune thing playing with my fertility.
Since it's mostly dermic reactions, part of me thinks to go see a dermatologist. But it seems to CYCLICAL, I think immune issues.
Who do I see? (any insight?)
Re: Do I see an Immunologist or Derm?
well, I've had a few "events"
- one was, we suspect, just bed bugs in Copenhagen. I had a LONNNNNG line of bites all up my left arm, left cheek, and left leg. (but we don't know if I was sleeping on my right or left side, lol. Davez had THREE bites. I counted over 75!) Some army of something munched away all night. They were immediate red bumps, then got puffy, then shrunk and hard, and then they all got this lil' "plug" of something in them. It was disgusting, and the itch was INSANE. And they scabbed. Again, Davez, right next to me the whole time, nothing. (we jumped on a 12 day baltic cruise the next day, and actually found LIDOCAINE to put on them, the itch was THAT bad.)
- another was eating long-line tropical fish and I got what was termed "scrombroid toxicity" from dangerous levels of histimines in the meat of the fish (it sat in the water too long, typical for some types of fishing, this was yelllowfin tuna) THAT rash was blisters and looked like a massive onslaught of pox. Again, insane rash. Very rare, I'm told. But the docs were baffled and it took a LONG time to figure this one out.
-I've gotten these bump outbreaks, I guess you could say, on the "crook" of where my thumbs and forefingers meet for a long time. Maybe 3 times a year? I used to think it was from sand fleas b/c it seemed to tie with being at the beach. Odd but whatever. But now last week I got it again, THIS time with water blisters. And I've not been near sand forever. And the itch. Itch Itch Itch. I hate that word.
-my scalp is just patches of dry skin that itches like mad. Brought on by stress, I've suspected. But it's cyclical, and more than dandruff.
See. odd. huh?
This may sound abusive but as a person with good medical insurance I'd schedule appointments with both.
I'd want answers and I wouldn't hesitate to seek several specialists' opinions if $$ were not a consideration.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
I get what you're saying, but we pay 20% of everything right now, until we meet our OOP max. Which, always tends to happen the middle of December, and leaves me with 2 weeks to do all these things that would be covered until the new calendar year starts. lol.
(but maybe this rolls over, unlike the deduct? I dunno. )
I have frequent ideopathic anaphylaxis and my allergist likes to confer with my GP and my endocrinologist. They obviously haven't figured it out, but my endo thinks that my body does go into a state of defense at certain times and it does seem in my case to coincide with the hormonal flux around ovulation. I have more hives and anaphylaxis then, and just little histamine reactions otherwise. For example, 3 weeks ago, I have a full on attack, needing my epi pen, and then yesterday (I have my period) same start of attack, but 50mg of benadryl did it for me, whereas the previous attack needed 150 mg of benadryl (don't try THAT dose at home!) and epinephrine. I was close to ovulating the 1at time.
Basically. I have no real information, but to say that hopefully one of your doctors will see the big picture. have you seen an immunologist?
I would go to a rheumatologist. Most derms are not well-versed in autoimmunity (at least the ones I have dealt with).
