2nd Trimester

How often do you call your dr. office??

I have been having lower back aches the past day or two.  It does not hurt, but any new ache/pain has me a little freaked out!  I am not one of those people who calls the doctor office at every ache and pain, but it's so hard not to!

There has to be someone out there who calls all the time!  Does calling reassure you that everything will be ok??  How do you decide when you should/shouldn't call?

I'm pretty sure pregnancy has turned me into a crazy person!  My poor husband!  :)

Re: How often do you call your dr. office??

  • I think I've called twice so far. Once to get them to call in a Zofran refill & the other b/c I was having back pain that felt similar to when I had a kidney stone. If you're concerned, I don't see why you shouldn't call, they're there to help you.

  • I've never called, but I never go to the Dr. unless pregnant either so....

From everything that I've ever read and/or experienced, lower back pain is normal.  But if it makes you feel better, just call.

  • I called once for some red spotting at 16 weeks. For everything else, I've either checked online or read a book. I'm not saying that to be nasty, I just haven't had any issues that those two things couldn't cover.
  • I've called twice, once for spotting and once when I nearly fainted twice in a hour.

  • Uh...I call all the time, but I gave them fair warning that I was going to be a paranoid fool. They know I'm coming into this with a lot of baggage and too much understanding of what can go wrong.

I have to say, my OB has been very understanding and always tells me to call if I have anymore questions. I feel like a dweeb, but at least it helps calm the panic.

I've been better since the NT scan (last week).

  • Thanks for your responses!  I spotted and bled quite a bit during the month of august (from weeks 5-10), I called quite a bit during that time period.  I always got the same nurse, who always seemed so annoyed with me!  She finally told me that I needed to accept that I was going to be one of those people who bleed/sport during pregnancy.  I figured that was her nice way of saying "PLEASE STOP CALLING US!"  I'm sure lower back aces are normal, but after my miscarriage last spring it's hard not to worry!!

     Thanks ladies!!

  • I call often.  They're understanding that I have some history and am a little freaked out, but I'm sure that most pregnant women are that way to an extent.  If you're not feeling right and have any concerns, call.  It can't hurt and that's what they're there for.  Even if they tell you it's nothing, it's still going to help you find piece of mind.  Good luck!

  • twice......... once for excruciating pain in my elbows and wrists and once because i thought i had a stomach bug or food poisoning

  • I've called them once. It was a desperate plea for Zofran. I'm the same as Simplemath I usually try to read up or do a google search on anything that I question. Simply because I hate calling the Dr. GL

  • I've never called with a pg related concern - only for office matters.  I've always just figured I'm pregnant and that is going to come with new, and sometimes uncomfortable, feelings.  But if it makes you feel better to call, then do it.

  • Oh my gosh, I can't get over how adorable your puppies are!!  If I was worried about something I would definitely call.  I'm sure the doctor's are used to all the questions!

  • Twice both for breathing issues. Being an asthmatic if there is any breathing problems he WANTS a call.

  • I call all the damn time.  My insurance comonay is paying them a lot of money so I figure they should earn it LOL

No in all seriousness, I have one PROM @ 36w, a bunch of miscarriages, then bedrest and PIH they know I'm gonna call.

This is the 1st week in 3-4 that I did not have to go into the office for something (had 3 visits to a cardiologist instaed).  My midwife did call to check on me today and to report that I am now anemic which is probably the cause of all my current symptoms/problems. Rad.

  • My doctor has already blocked my telephone number from his line... Stick out tongue

I call at least 3 times a month, he is so patient with me, but I can tell that he is about to tell me to start looking for another OB, I am such a nervous wreck and anything that feels weird, I call just to make sure.

  • I've called somewhere between a few and several times :) I was feeling the same way you are, the last time i considered calling them. I ended up calling and they had me come in that day. It didn't end up being serious but it was something they wanted to check.

You know your body . .if there is something you think isn't right, call! I was glad i did that day.
