Bad mama complex?

Am I a bad mama if I let the price tag dictate my choice of diapers and other common baby products? Does anyone else feel totally inferior when some of the other mamas sound like they put WAY too much thought into EVERY detail?

Re: Bad mama complex?

  • Not a bad momma at all.  I honestly bought the cheapest and firmest mattress I saw, for example.  Maybe I'm a bad mom, but I didn't do a lot of research on common products.  We bought what we liked and what we could afford.

  • im the same way we cant afford me not to be. I feel guilty sometimes but i know that those choices make us be able to afford our life!
  • Best thing that ever happened to us was a trip we took to SE Asia before we got pregnant. It's easy to get into the "we must have this for the baby" game, but we kept asking ourselves, "Do they need this is SE Asia?" Most of the time, the answer was no. And those kids are just as loved and happy (if not happier) than North Americans.
  • SO and I were just talkin about this the other night while going through old photos. I found pics from my first xmas and my mom had came and said "this was the poorest I ever was in my life how horrible" (she was 18 when she had me w. No family support) and SO asked "did you ever have any complaints" I thought no, not at all! As a baby we don't care about all the extra stuff! Just the Love and affection.... Oh and the boob hehe.
  • I am cheap, cheap, cheap.

Target brand formula and diapers and I refuse to spend more than $30 on a diaper bag.

Smile You're not a bad mommy. You're smart. Most of the stuff that people are spending tons of money on will not get used for longer than a few months.

This is a test. This is only a test.
  • Being financially responsible makes you a good mama.

  • doubt it.

we?re not skimping on diapers cos our friends did and they ended up with lots of rash and leakage issues, so we are going by the cheapest but satisfactory type they are using (local brand, probably not on sale in the US) and hope ours wont be allergic or anything..

other than that, everything had to come out of our savings and we scoured for deals and discounts as best as we could! i also compared with several friends who have kids already and went by their advice rather than going by what stores and lists told us to purchase!

Somebody once told me that the nursery is for the parents and not the kid. All they need is a safe warm place to eat, sleep, poop and bathe. It?s hard to resist all the ubercute (and expensive) stuff when first laying eyes on it, but am proud of having been able to stick to our budget regardless!

  • I think it only makes you a bad mama if you continue to use cheap diapers that you know leak, and cause your LO diaper rash.

That being said, I have no complaints on Target brand!  I've never used them for newborns but sizes 3-5 have worked WONDERFULLY for my DS so far and they are SO much less $$!
