I never gave it much thought before, but while I was pregnant I read some horror stories about carseats falling off because they aren't built to fit there. So I try to put the carseat in the large part of the cart whenever possible. I have a carrier for LO but that can't always be used. Am I the only one paranoid about this? I get strange looks when I put him in the large part of the cart but it makes me feel better. But this still makes me timid when we go out. I can't wait til he can sit up and sit in the front by himself!
Re: Anyone else scared/worried about carseats in shopping carts?
I'm not a fan of it either. However, I did it once and it felt safe to me. With that said, I never took my hand off it... haha
I just keep my moby with me when ever we leave the house so I don't have to deal with the car seat while shopping.

DH got mad at me when I wouldn't let him put the carrier in the front of the cart...until I showed him how it looked and he realized it wasn't a good idea. She's worn 90% of the time in the store...otherwise she's in the big part.
I don't think they are made to fit in that part anymore anyway.

My snugrides click onto the cart as tightly as they do in the bases in the car. I couldn't go anywhere, ever, if I didn't use the seat part of the cart.

My sister swears up & down that the carseat should actually lock onto the seat-part of the cart. Probably 13 years ago when she had her kids, but my carseat definitely does not!!! When I do go to grocery store alone, I'll put her whole carseat down into the big part of the cart. Otherwise, SO goes with me & we bring the stroller or I use the carrier - or I just run to the store on my own on the weekend & SO stays at home with DD. I have an Infantino Infinity carrier though that somehow straps to the cart seat, but I honestly think it'd be easier to just wear her!

ETA: I leave the carrier in the car, but we only have one car so I only keep it on certain days like when I have an appointment to go to or errand to run that has to be done during the day. I need to start keeping it in the diaper bag though so that even when I am at home I have it - DD has suddenly become super clingy & wants to be with Mom all the time!!! She used to LOVE laying on her play mat, now she's rolling over every which way and gets so irritated, I can't walk away for 5 minutes!
I have had him in the front and ALWAYS have my hands on the seat but the fact that I can't see in front of me bothers me more. I'm 5'11 and I still can't see over the seat. People are just so ignorant walking out in front of me or cutting me off and I wouldn't want to crash my cart into anyone. There is a GREAT produce store near me with the HUGEST selection of fruits and exotic produce and it's always superbusy and people are just rude there... leaving their carts unattended in the middle of the isle and giving me a drity looks when i move their carts....
As you can tell pet peeve!
I think wearing the baby is the best idea...
I usually wear DD when I go to the store, or I put her in her stroller if I'm just going for a few things. A few times I've put her carseat in the large part of the shopping cart.
Once a bagger at my local grocery store actually GRABBED DD's seat and said "oh people usually just put it up top..." and MOVED HER to the top. I said "That's not safe!!!" and immediately yanked her away and gave her a angry stare. I was not happy at all. I understand if you think you're being helpful but don't EVER touch/move my child.
