Why do i bother...

Posting on other boards? I posted a simple question an the real estate board and everyone freaked at me and made some very mean assumptions.... It actually kind of upset me, I don't know why because they have done that everytime... This is really the last time i go over there...

  • What was the question? (so we can decided if it really was dumb.)

  • FWIW, I read your post and just wanted to let you know that it can be done.  MH and I just bought a new house, we had the builder pay the 3% down and our closing costs.  That FHA program ended on October 1st but they have other programs out there.  We were living in a two bedroom townhouse and the walls were closing in on us everyday, we would have had the money to put down after the sale but we decided to put it towards paying off some of our other bills.  To each their own, just because the girls on that board don't think you shoud buy a house if you can't put 10% down doesn't mean you should continue to"throw" your money away renting.
  • That's how I feel, I can easily afford a home, my rent right now is 710 a month for a 2 bedroom apartment. We pay all utilities (including water and garbage) and pay for anything that needs fixing. They didn't understand that and flat out said i can't afford a home. If i renew my lease (which is up 2/28) I will be paying 775 a month...

  • I agree with PP and not the people on the retail board!  We did it!  We have been in our home 3 years now and are doing wonderfully!  We did were able to get the 3% downpayment as a gift from my employer at the time.  It was a BLESSING.  But we had no savings and were able to talk the sellers into paying the closing cost....if they want to sell bad enough they will do it ;-)  I say if you feel you can do it...only you know your situation!.....go for it!

  • It was not a dumb question.  You can negotiate quite a bit. We just bought a house, luckly we made it in time for the FHA loan, but we still did some negotiating.  My friend just bought a house and he asked them to pay 3%, they did!  All they can do is make a counter offer if they dont like yours.  Renting is a huge waste of money if you can afford a house.  There's no way my husband and I could save all that money right now.  Our mortgage is only a little more than we were paying for a 2 brd townhouse too.  Plus 1st time home buyers are getting big time tax credits too.

I say go for it if you can!

  • The general attitude on that board is a bit judgemental. Don't worry about it!
