xp: WDYT - pregnancy related

DD is turning one on Sunday, but I'm heading over early.  We've done the first bday and I'm over it.  Just wanted to get your opinion on my ob appt today.  TIA!

I had a positive pregnancy test two weeks ago tomorrow.  Today was my appointment.  I had an u/s done, and it measured the sac at just 5 weeks, and there was no heartbeat.  She seemed okay with the measurement and the lack of heartbeat (?!), because I have no clue when my last period was - we were not ttc (or avoid), and I am nursing.  But when I pointed out that I tested two weeks ago, she kind of seemed concerned.  She felt my uterus, and she said it measured 6 weeks, which is what we were thinking I was closer to.  WDYT?  We decided to do bloodwork to hopefully get some sort of answer or start.  She may bring me soon for bloodwork again otherwise, I go back in two weeks for another u/s.  It is what it is, just want to hear what you truthfully think.  Do you think I should wait two weeks for another u/s or ask to come in a little sooner?

  • From the outside looking in, it's easy to say that you should wait the two weeks, but if I were in your shoes I would want answers sooner as well. The waiting game in the worst.

    T&P.

  • From what I can understand, it won't have a heartbeat until after 6 weeks.  I was 6wks 1 day when I had my first u/s. I don't know if this helps or not.

  • I would wait. Most doctors don't see patients until they are 8 weeks pregnant anyway. I think 9 weeks is when you can get a good read on the babies heartbeat. Try not to worry. Good luck

  • You could have just tested really early by accident, since you don't know when your last period was. I mean, for all you know, you could have been barely over three weeks.

I tested positive at 3 weeks 1 day!

In that case, two weeks later would put you right at 5 weeks.

  • Thank you all.
I think the thing that concerns me the most is that I tested positve two weeks ago and I only measured 5 weeks.  Aren't you typically almost/at least 4 weeks when you get a positive test?  I'm okay with the lack of hb, but the measurement of the sac and then my uterus measuring 6 weeks concerns me.

Jack was my 4th pregnancy so I had my first u/s at 6w3d.  The heart rarely starts beating earlier than 6w.

    The roller coaster sucks.  T&P!

This is what I am hoping to hear!
I got my positive 10 dpo last time, and I suspect I ovulated sometime around the 17/18/19th because that is the only time we had unprotected sex.  I guess I will just have to wait and see.

be prepared for anything but stay positive!  I tested early with DD and with another baby that i m/c'd. I doubt there is anything they could do if you were seen earlier but i know it's a hard wait. stay postive!

Since it's your second child, your uterus is probably already stretched out from the first, which could account for the 6 week measurement. Best wishes :)

  • I had the same thing happen with the first u/s with both of my girls.  They had me come in for another u/s a week later and I was on tenterhooks for the entire week, so I couldn't imagine waiting two.  Clearly, both times it was fine for me!

  • I know saying not to worry is easier said then done. I know when we conceived DS and tested positive 2 weeks later. I had an incident at 8 weeks & then went to check heartbeat and it took 45 minutes of consistently trying to find it. It's really hard to find it that early and we only did for a few seconds after all that time. I agree with PP about you measuring different since this is #2.

I think I would ask for hcg-beta bloodwork (2 tests, 48 hours apart). You shouldn't have to suffer with worry for 2 more weeks before you find out what is going on.
  • Just wanted to share/follow-up.  My hcg levels came back appropriate for 5-6 weeks, and my ob was "pleased."  I go back on Monday for another blood draw.  Hopefully it is all good.  Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.  :)
