We start EC with DD three weeks ago, and it hasn't been very successful. We put her on her potty before/after every nap and bedtime and before/after every meal. We've had one pee catch in three weeks; that's it. She almost always goes within one minute of waking up, before I can even get to her most of the time, much less get her on the potty.
Not only that, but I am no closer to figuring out her potty signs. I thought if I could figure out when she needs to go, we could still cure her in her diaper for a while and then graduate to the potty after she's got that down. We spend several hours a week going diaper-free (mostly on weekends), and I still don't see any regularly repeated signs. Anyone have advice? What are we doing wrong?
Oh, and what cue do you use for poop? She used to be an obvious about her BMs, but since I've started cueing, all of a sudden she's a silent pooper!
Re: EC - Not Successful, Need Advice
We're in the midst of a total potty strike with our 9 month old, so I may not be the best person to give advice, but I'd give it time. In the beginning, it helped if I really just spent lots of time looking at her while she was diaper-free (not reading, not trying to do anything else) and after the first day i had the signs down. We started at 3.5 months part-time and looked for cues (squirming, etc.) but now we kind of just go on a schedule because (a) it's easier) and (b) she still pees like 15 times a day and we just aren't focused enough to put her on the potty each time. i think it's ok to focus more on schedule though, and eventually she (or you) will start to figure it out.
We use the same cue for poop and pee, and she's always been a silent pooper, so can't help you there.
good luck.
just be consistent and it will happen - even offering regularly and being quick to change her will make a huge difference.
good luck!
