Survey re: morning sickness

I was just reading some stuff about m/s, and it mentioned that m/s may be less severe if you start taking a prenatal before you conceive.  I'm curious whether that holds true with you ladies.

When did you start taking a prenatal, and how bad is your m/s so far?

I started taking them several months before I got pregnant, as we were amping up to TTC and I've heard it's good to start your folic acid ahead of time.  My queasiness has been fairly constant, but I haven't thrown up yet at all.  Wonder if it helped?

Re: Survey re: morning sickness

  • I hope that will help keep m/s away!

I've been having some aversions (nothing serious), a little bit of nausea, and an upset stomach off and on, but haven't thrown up yet. I HATE throwing up...

  • I have taken a prenatal for several months and m/s hit me today like a ton of bricks.  I'm so nauseous but I haven't thrown up yet.  Ugh.
  • I started taking PNVs 6 months before my BFP, and have had no M/S just nausea. However my sister started her PNVs long before conceiving as well and had severe morning sickness through all 3 pregnancies. I hope M/S is not to rough for me, but we have a fairly consistent history of sever M/S in my family.
  • I've been on a prenatal for ages - my doc just said I might as well get on one since it's good for you either way. I haven't had any M/S yet, but I just now am at 6 weeks and have had twinges of queasiness here and there. I'm kind of secretly hoping I get M/S as I read a study that was just released (Rutgers Univ. I believe) that said women who have M/S have a drastically reduced risk of miscarriage. Not that women without M/S necessarily will. Like we needed one more reason to worry!!

  • I've always taken vitamins, but I switched to prenatals a few weeks before we conceived, I think.  I haven't had anything I would call morning sickness yet.  (Hoping it's not a bad sign.)  My stomach does tend to feel a little uncomfortable, like I'm always really hungry, so I just eat and the feeling goes away for a while.

  • I've been taking a prenatal for... years now.... no M/S yet!

Rainbow baby, EDD 7/8/14, missed miscarriage 12/5/13.
  • I took a multi + an extra 400mcg of folic acid before and while TTC.  I started my PNV during the 2ww of my BFP cycle.  I haven't had any m/s yet, but I'm only 5 weeks.  I do have quite a history of motion sickness, though, which I hear can be a predictor of m/s...

  • I've been taking prenatals for 3 1/2 years.  I haven't had any m/s at all - no queasiness, neasea, vomiting, etc.

    Interesting theory.

  • I've been taking my PNV since the first weekend in June.  Other than a few gaggy episodes and dry heaving because of cat vomit (which may have happened regardless of my PG status) I've been a-OK.

Oh man, cleaning up cat puke is never fun.  Cat puke no longer phases me, however, because my dog threw up ALL OVER his crate, two nights in a row, last week.  And had diarrhea in it.  It went 360 degrees, all over the walls, the floor, his pillow, etc.  The smell was horrible, but I survived without throwing up myself. I had to clean it up because H was out in the yard cleaning up the dog.   So I can safely say that cat puke will never gross me out again after seeing something far, far more horrific.  Haha.

  • Not to throw a wrench in the theory, but I took PNVs for about 10 months before I conceived and the m/s has hit me hard.  I'm super queasy all the time and nothing is appetizing.  I haven't vomited yet, but I almost wish I would in the hopes that the queasiness would go away for a while.

  • I find it interesting that we are all queasy, but none of us have thrown up yet. I always thought that was an inescapable part of m/s! Maybe we're just not there yet. :)
  • No m/s yet and I was taking a multi vitamin with 400mg of folic acid since February probably, maybe March.  I took prenatals for about a month or two before becoming pregnant.

Terribly paranoid as a result of this study b/c I have ZERO m/s whatsoever...AND I did start PNV sometime between March and May  and didnt TTC until Sept....so maybe?

  • Technically m/s can be just the nausea...you don't have to be throwing up all the time to have m/s.

That said, I've felt barfy here and there but nothing to speak of...yet.

I've been taking prenatals consistently for about a year.

  • I started taking PNV probably in August. No morning sickness yet, but a few queasy spells. Even those are few and far between. I do find that I'm having some food aversions.... the thought of certain foods makes my stomach turn!

I agree, that survey does make me a little nervous.
