The DCP I am talking about watches 3-4 kids on a daily basis at $50 a day (M-F). She is licensed. Some mothers were unhappy because they couldn't claim it on their taxes. I said that I wouldn't because this is a question I ask DCP's before I agree to anything.

Re: Would you report a DCP for not claiming their income? UPDATED
If I could get in trouble for them not claiming then yes I would consider reporting her, to cover myself. If it doesn't affect me then i wouldn't. Plus I wouldn't even know the first step in reporting someone, so it's highly unlikely I would ever report, even if i wanted to.
I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin...what, call the IRS?
I also would have no idea if my DCP is reporting all their income.
Don't they HAVE to give you a reciept for your taxes? Ours does at the end of the year so we can file the childcare credit. I wouldn't think there'd be any legal way around that.
but what does it accomplish if you report them? Do you not like them? who do you report them to?
My DCP doesn't report her income. I don't get to claim the child care credit because of it. I don't really care. She's wonderful.
ETA: Okay I sorta lied on the bold part. I didn't know that she didn't report; I never asked. My fault for not asking. It bothered me at first, but she's incredibly reasonable with her rates and she is great with DS.
lol.
Also, your whole answer is a convoluted mess. You should have voted "yes".

$50/day
it is $50 a day...not per week. That would be sweet!
Heck yea it would! But I meant to type $50/week, even that is quite a deal (for these parts anyway- and I am not even in a HCOL area).

As long as the DCP were doing it for a good price (as in cheaper than most) and did a good job, then no, I wouldn't report her. Honestly, in that case we are both only going to benefit from the situation.
If they didn't have a lower price then I most likely wouldn't send LO there, but I still wouldn't report it.
so should babysitters also claim their income. Even if they are paid in cash "under the table" as it were?
I'm just curious. I mean, if she was upfront about it and you were paying her by cash or check then is it really such a big deal?
I think way too many things are reported these days. MYOB.
This!
Personally, I don't care. This isn't my daycare provider.
Nah, probably not.
I interviewed several babysitters and they all had the same policy. If you want to claim it, I will charge you more money. It would have all evened out in the end.
Agreed, i just wouldn't work with her. But YES, babysitters are supposed to report their income. Waitresses and bartenders are supposed to report their tips. If you make money in any way, you're supposed to report it. Many people don't, but they are breaking the law.
I don't care as much about a babysitter, but if a woman is running a licensed business as her full-time job and is not reporting any of it, I don't love that. I pay my taxes...they should pay theirs.
