Um, whenever baby decides to come out?  Let's face it, unless you induce or have a scheduled c/s, you have very little control over when baby is born.

  • Ugh, same thing happened to me. First they told me, April 26, which i knew was wrong, I don't know where the crackpot came up with that, and i kept telling her it was April 16. Then I got my U/S and GUESS WHAT? April 16. 10 years of medical school to get pwned by a 19 year old.
  • Most docs will tell you that your due date is just an estimation and could go either way up to 10 days if they're trying to be really accurate.  You're due when the baby is ready to come out.  You and the doctors have no control over that time table unless you schedule a delivery date and time to have a c-section.

Considering that 30-40% of labors are induced in the US, I think the OP's concern is valid.  Hopefully it won't be an issue, but if she were to develop complications in her pregnancy or go past her due date, knowing how far along she was could be an important factor in medical decisions.

OP, did you have an early dating ultrasound?  The later in pregnancy you are, the less accurate ultrasound measurements become at telling you how far along you are.  Were you having regular cycles when you got pregnant?

  • When they talk about your EDD, the E stands for ESTIMATED.  Unless you are testing with OPKs or having Ultrasounds to monitor your cycles, your doctor has NO WAY of knowing when you ovulated, hence when you conceived, hence when you are due.  Your period is their best educated guess based on a typical cycle.  Who knows, maybe you ovulated early, maybe your kid is big for it's age, but unfortunately, your doctor is not all knowing.  And unless you are scheduled C/S, nobody can tell you when you'll have that blasted baby.

I understand what you're saying, but if she and her doctor decide to induce her, I think there should be other considerations beyond simple due dates.

I was induced with my first.  My doctor first started talking induction at what would be considered 39 based on my LMP, but we declined until I was 41 weeks based on my LMP (40 weeks 2 days by conception date) when DH and I both felt we had given DS ample opportunity to show up on his own and I was already dilated/effaced enough to a point that an induction was more likely to be successful.

my earliest U/S was at 14 weeks and yes i was having reg periods however i know  several women who have had a period while preg my grandmother was one of them and while it has never happened to me before there is a first time for everything and i would like to know my due date cause while it is estimated i have had to have two c-sec already and while i am trying for V-BAC i know a c-sec is possible and i dont want my baby born two early cause the due date was wrong.
