The advice nurse told me to get one to help sleep at night while she has a runny nose. I have a hard time spending $40 on something she will rarely use.
**Disclaimer** I used this for myself...not for a kid- but I used to get nosebleeds all the time from our apartment in DE being so dry...
We used a Vick's Humidifier (got it from Walmart or the local drug store)
During the winter- I'd use it every night
The one we had had about a gallon tank on it...We only had it fill it once & it would last a good 8 hours through the night. It was quiet and it humidified the room pretty quickly. I would turn it on about 20 mintues before I went to bed and the room would be good by the time I went to bed...Another plus- it adds extra heat to the room - which may be seen as a negative, depending on what you want!
As a respiratory therapist....if she's already got a runny nose, I'm not sure what good it's going to do her. If her mucous is runny/wet...I wouldn't think she would need one. Now, if she's really stuffed up & there's definitely stuff up there but it's not coming out, THEN I would say she could use one- bc the humidity will help loosen up the mucous so it's easier for her to sneeze/blow out and for you to BBG out. HTH!!!
I know I have seen some friends just place a big bowl of warm/hot water in a room instead of a humidifier - and swear it works just as well as a humidifier.

Ours is Crane brand, it looks like a frog. They have other animals too. I think it was around $30. We use it every night when she has a cold (which has been about 6 weeks total so far). We will probably start using it every night when we start running the heater. DH wants to get one for our room too. That one will probably not be a frog.

We have this but for us - registered for one for the kid. I have really bad allergies so it's helpful. We have the teardrop shaped one and it's awesome.

This is what I was wondering. It is definitely runny. It's all coming out. And running down her face. So gross. She screams when I wipe it too. Poor baby. I am constantly suctioning her nose.

We have the one that looks like an elephant. We use it A LOT! Rowen has had croup 3 times and they recommended it then. He also gets terrible nosebleeds (seriously the kid is covered in blood and it scares the sh!t out of me) when the humidity goes down so we pretty much run it every single night.
Re: Let's Talk Humidifiers
Which one do you have? We have 3 Vick's Cool Mist Humidifiers. In the winter we keep one in Alexa's room, one in ours and one in the living room.
How often do you use it? From about November - April they are constantly running. It gets SUPER dry here in the winter - its pretty much a necessity.

Have you considered to try that method?

Ahhh, what? Come on. You're no fun!

I have the frog one too! I got it before Caroline was around and it goes between her room and my bedroom, depending on who needs it.
The only issue I have with it is cleaning it. We haven't figured out a good way to clean it.
