Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless Leg Syndrome sucks! More so when you have the share the bed with someone who suffers from it!

Mr.MM has had this for as long as I can remember and it's gotten to the point where I try keep his legs still in my sleep.

But last night I had enough. He kept thumping the mattress, over and over and over again. I would put my leg on top of his legs and it would only stop for a minute. Finally I had enough and I kicked him and he kicks me back. Of Course neither one of us was fully awake while this is going on.

After he kicked me back, he kept doing it. I decided to get up and get some water. It's about 3am and I go back to bed. As soon as I lay down he starts leg thumping and then kicks me. I never got a chance to make him stop. That's when I grabbed my snoogle and decided to sleep on the couch.

He refuses to see a doctor because he swears he doesn't do these things. Anyone else or their S/Os suffer from RLS and take medication for it?? Does it help? I will have to kill Mr.MM if he keeps this up.

Re: Restless Leg Syndrome

  • I had it sporadically pre-pg and it has recently reared it's ugly head again in 3rd tri. It SUCKS. Luckily my DH is a heavy sleeper so my moving doesn't bother him, but it's terrible for me. I already have trouble sleeping these days, and the "creepy crawlies" of RLS make it difficult to actually fall asleep because I can't keep my legs still.

I think someone on my local board has a hubby who takes meds and has been doing fairly well. How is your DH sleeping? Does he wake up tired in the morning? I'd think that might spur him into talking to a doctor...

He does. He complained that he was tired like he didn't sleep at all last night. I gave him no sympathy because I've tried to get him to talk to a doctor. He's one of those "too much of a man to take drugs" kinda of guys.

Last night was the worst it's ever been.

  • Not my SO but my dad has RLS really bad.  His was so bad that he would actually wear holes in the sheets.  He is now on some medication for it, I believe clonazepam (sp) but it's a pretty serious drug. I was doing some research on it, and the side effects are pretty scary...  I think he has cut back his dosage a little because like I said, it's a pretty serious drug.  It does help him though.  RLS can be pretty serious and can actually be affecting his sleep-  I would suggest him see a doctor if you can convince him.

  • It's seriously irritating. He will only acknowledge that he does it after I describe everything that he does and how pissed off it makes me.

At one point he tried to be slick and said that he only does it on the nights we don't have sex. Well, we put that one to the mythbuster's test and let me tell you, myth busted.

Tonight I'm going to put ankle weights on him and see if it helps any. lol Next is to tie down his legs.

  • I have RLS and it has gotten MUCH worse during pregnancy.  It would keep me from falling asleep for hours and then once I got to sleep I would wake up around 4:00 and not be able to fall back to sleep!

My OB suggested taking Magnesium supplements, and I thought BAH whatever that won't help.  But For 2 weeks now I've been RLS free!  I take 250mg.  Your DH won't have to go to the Dr. or anything, just go to the vitamin aisle!  It has really helped me, so it's worth a try.

I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.
