3rd Trimester

Anyone conceive immediately after a m/c?

Hi Ladies,?I have a quick question... has anyone here gotten pregnant right after a m/c (not waiting at least one cycle)? Either on accident or on purpose? And if so, how did it go? I just went through a blighted ovum m/c and my husband are comfortable on trying right away, but I'm just curious on anyone else's experience. We have been told that your body will only get pregnant right away if it is ready.

Hope everyone's day is going well!!

Re: Anyone conceive immediately after a m/c?

  • yes...we got pregnant our 1st cycle trying...miscarried about a week later....ovulated 13-14 days later....and found out 12 days after that we were expecting with the LO.  Sorry about your loss...but don't lose hope ;-)

  • Our doctor told us that we didn't have to wait.  But it did take a few more cycles.  I just wanted to say, ask your doctor if it's ok to try immediately or if he/she wants you to wait.  And then whatever he/she says is fine.

  • our dr told us not to wait...it was so early on that he said some women would have mistaken it for a later, heavier period. it was a chromosomal issue most likely and it was the body's way of "rejecting" the embryo.  we took it as a blessing in disguise.

  • Not me but a crazy story for you: We know a couple who has been expecting for 11 months!  Seems she m/c and didn't know it, Dr. didn't know it and when switching drs. for some other reasons, they figured out her due date as about 2 months off.  So she has been pg for a while, but from 2 cycles.  Seems it can happen though I've heard waiting a month or two to get your hormones back in order can be helpful.
  • I miscarried in late January (at 12 weeks) and conceived again in early March. I had a  hard time determining when my first cycle actually was, since I bled for so long after the m/c. I knew right away the day I was ovulating in March, however, I cramped really bad and had all the other symptoms. We conceived right away, which was nice....especially after going through something as hard as a miscarriage!

I wish you the best of luck.

  • I had two miscarriages and both times I got pregnant pretty easy even waiting until after I had a period- literally it was almost like "m/c, d&c, period, pregnant".  Since my m/c were both found late(10 & 12 weeks) - it was like I was pregnant for 21 months.  What I have heard is that you should wait until you cycle just so they don't mis-read.  It sounds like that may have changed since I m/c'ed.  Good luck= FWIW, I remember standing in the shower so confused over when I should start trying again because there is so much conflicting information out there- wait 6 mos, go immediately, etc.  In the end, we never started trying again, my cycles were just so whacked that it kept happening!
  • Hm, it gave me an error when I replied, so let's try this again.

You really should consult your doctor and follow those orders. If you don't agree with the timeline, ask questions. Ask if it's physically ok to try sooner.

But to answer your question, no. We waited for my natural period. Tried for 2 cycles, took a couple cycles off and got pregnant again on our 2nd cycle trying.

Take time to let your body and emotions recover. Remember, it's only a few weeks, but could make a big difference.

You may not even realize that you need the time to heal until you're grasping at straws, desperate to be pregnant again. I know I thought we were okay, but we really weren't over it.

I am very sorry for your loss.

  • depending how far along you were when you miscarried i would think depends on how quick you can try again-

my miscarriages were at 12 and 8 weeks. Both times i was told to wait 2 cycles. I had to go in for blood every couple days to make sure my levels went back down to 0. I got pregnant after getting 2 periods. (but i tried to get pregnant after the first period both times)

  • I did.

    Four times.

Statistically speaking, there's an infantismally higher risk for m/c if you review the literature - but the difference is small enough to be ignored, if you ask me.

I mc at 11 weeks and had to go back 5 times to have blood drawn before my levels were down to 0.  I was told to wait 2 cycles before trying so I did.  I got pregnant the first time we tried again after the 2 cycles.  I'm glad I waited because it was really hard on me emotionally.  I really wanted to be pg and I've seen the struggles my sister has had with her 3 mc.  Good luck and sorry for you loss.

  • I did.

We discovered a missed m/c in March at 11w3d.  I had a D&C and the dr. advised that we didn't have to wait to try again.  We didn't wait, and we became pregnant again before getting AF.  I'm now 29 weeks along and all is going well.

I'm sorry for your loss, but hopefully we'll see you announcing your BFP soon.  Make sure you follow your dr's advice, as every case is different.

  • Thanks everyone for your stories! We are really excited to start trying again and I just have a good feeling that everything will go well. My instincts are usually right (I had a feeling for a couple weeks that something wasn't right before I found out that I miscarried). I'm supposed to go in for another blood test tomorrow morning, so I'm crossing my fingers that my hcg levels are down to zero (I stopped bleeding completely this monday morning) so we can start trying again. Hopefully I'll come back with some good news :-)

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

I didn't read all the other responses, so someone may have already mentioned this -

But just be aware that you may have some hcg left in your system when you test next month.  We miscarried in January and waited one cycle at my doc's suggestion. I got a + in March, but my beta levels were in the single digits and it turns out that was just residual hcg and not an actual pregnancy.  But we conceived for real a few weeks later.

ETA: I see that you mentioned your hcg levels are being checked. That's good! My doc never bothered to test mine after the m/c and D&C, hence the confusion.  Good luck to you!!

  • I'm sorry about your loss!

I had a chemical pregnancy and became pregnant two cycles later.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do!
