BFing mamas and supply issues

I have been having supply issues and tried everything so my doc put me on meds to help and they did for awhile, but yesterday it tanked again. Has anyone had similar problems? BFing is really important to me. Any help appreciated. TIA

Re: BFing mamas and supply issues

  • I was just going to post that I don't think I'm going to make it to 1 year.  :(  My supply is slipping quickly and I have virtually no freezer stash since DS's allergies have changed over time.  I actually asked DH to buy some formula today so that we have it on hand.  :(  Hopefully some ladies have good suggestions.

  • Since Labor Day weekend, my supply has dipped.  I've been drinking lots of water and eating 2 packs of instant oatmeal every morning.  This week I was close to normal, but today I didn't have any oatmeal and I only pumped about 6oz versus the 10oz I usually get.
  • Have you had AF yet?

  • I am right there with you.  Fenugreek helped me out and I will sometimes set the alarm for 2am to do a pumping session so I have enough milk for daycare the next day.   It's exhausting but it works.

  • My supply seems to be slowly dipping.  I pump 4 x a day, and i tried to cut back to 3.  That caused a major drop.  I am just keeping up with my 4 pumps, oatmeal, water, and am making sure i'm eating enough calories, and i'm barely keeping up.  Good luck!!
  • I was a pumper and all I can tell you are the things that are supposed to work, because I tried them all and none of them worked for me:
Fenugreek + crap, now I can't remember the name of the other herb I took with the fenugreek

  • I have been having trouble too, here is what I have learned.  My son is 6 months old. At first I only had to sub every 3-4 days, since he started sleeping through the night it has been every day. I have tried many herbs and different things. Believe it or not I have found the most improvement by drinking Guinness, but any other really dark beer would work. 1/2 a bottle a night should do it - hubby can have the other half. I had 4-5 women recommend before I tried it, it works.

If you are taking allergy meds this will stop production of milk, at least it almost did for me. Claritin is safe but anything that dries like sudafed is bad for milk production.

Fenugreek helped some, Alfalfa I saw no change, I have just started taking Nettle, raspberry leaf and chlorophyll. My friend said that chlorophyll - liquid form - was the only thing that worked for her. Guess everyone is different and I can already see a difference but I don't know if it is the nettle, raspberry or chlorophyll since I started all of these at the same time.

I will try almost anything, except getting up in the middle of the night! I had never heard of oatmeal but I will try it, I am guessing it has similar results as the beer. Also the less I sleep the worse my supply.

Good luck - your not alone, I am not going to give up!
