What is your plan for keeping LO away from Christmas tree?

MIL reminded me the other day that if we put up a tree it is going to be a bit of a struggle to keep DS from grabbing all the ornaments and also if we get a real tree he will be picking up every little stray needle on the floor...

  • I'm a little stressed about this.  Our only idea so far is to get one of those big play yard gates and put it up around the tree.  We are getting a real tree, but I'm not worried about the needles.  If it becomes a problem, I'll just vacuum around the tree every day.

  • Our plan is TBD.... I can see it now, DS trying to pull the tree down numerous times daily... the needles will be in his mouth, ornaments will be started from the middle of the tree up probably.. haha. The last few years we have gotten our tree the day after Thanksgiving, but this year I'll be working and even though we can get it that weekend, I have a feeling we will wait until a couple weeks before Christmas probably to avoid the hassle of having a LO and a tree..

  • Our tree is going to be in a room that she doesn't go in very much. We'll take her in there to see it but probably won't let her play around it too much.

  • Crap.  Never even thought of this.

We have the same gate as PP mentioned.  I guess we'll be using that!

  • Doors!  We are lucky enough that we will be putting our tree in our foyer and we have doors from the living room looking into that we can close.  Otherwise I would be getting that gate above.

I actually wanted to move the tree into the living room because as it is the tree is right there when you open the front door but with LO crawling all over the place we're just going to keep it as it was last year for now.

  • Glad you posted this as I hadn't even thought about it!  The play yard idea sounds best though.
  • Oh crap! totally didnt even think about this. Maybe a play yard around it. I may just skip the oramments on the bottom so there is nothing for her to play with that is at her level.

  • We are putting the tree in our front room and then gating off the room.

This is probably what we are going to do.

I have a friend that used the play yard last year and it worked out good for them.
