Adoption

Today was a good day

First, I found out that we?ll be able to meet with the lawyer who contracts with our agency while we?re down in Peru.  He offered to meet us for lunch to discuss the process, and then to take us to visit an orphanage!  I?m so excited?and nervous/scared.

I?m worried that seeing the conditions our child is living in may upset me, and weigh on my mind while we are waiting.  But I?m really hoping to be pleasantly surprised.  After all, all the pictures of the orphanages we?ve seen make them seem really nice, well-run, and relatively modern.  And we?ve repeatedly heard that they are very child-developmentally centered.  I?m really hoping that this visit will help put me a little more at ease, but whatever I find, I?d rather know the truth now than wonder until we meet our child.

Another thing that made today rock is that my husband finally had a talk with his boss about our trip and told him that we are adopting.  The conversation went well, and his boss has no problem with our leaving despite the current crisis (my husband is a corporate investment banker who trades in commercial paper).  What a relief!  We were so worried they?d ask him not to go?especially since last year they did request that we cancel our trip (my husband was able to talk them out of it).

To top it off, my husband told him that he?d like a promotion.  Several people in the bank and his group have told him he deserves it, and his boss is taking the request to his superior.  Even though nothing?s promised, it?s still a step in the right direction, considering the dire straights the financial world is in right now.

So, even though my Spanish class left me dazed and confused this evening, today was a really good day!  Since I always gripe to you when the process has me down, I figured I should also share when things go right.

  • I'm so glad you had a good day!  I hope the visit to the orphanage helps you feel better about where your child is living while you are working to bring him/ her home.

Go YH at getting a promotion!  It might be be as hard as you think because if his company is worried about people leaving for a more secure position they might be willing to bump him up to be sure they don't lose such a hard worker!  (I know my company is desperate for people to stop leaving!)

I'm sure your trip to Peru will be wonderful!

  • What a fantastic day for your DH and you about his work!

And what excellent news on the adoption front.  I know that will help answer questions for you.

  • Glad you had a good day. When we were in China we didn't get to tour our daughter's orphanage (will see that next June) but did tour another orphanage. It was very hard to see the kids there and to literally watch the process as they determined which children would even be put up for adoption. But we did come away from the experience knowing that the children were cared for and cared about. I hope you can come away with the same feelings.

Good promo vibes to you and DH! When do you get to go to Peru?

  • Thanks, everyone.  I'm sure seeing the orphanage will provide me with some peace.

We are going for the first two weeks of November, and have plans to travel around to several different places and see as much as possible.  We're going to Lake Titicaca, Machu Picchu, and the rainforest, among other areas.  I can't wait!

  • What a great day!!!

Have a fabulous time preparing for your trip, and don't worry about the Spanish.  It'll come :)  I know I was dazed and confused at the beginning to, but be patient with yourself.
You always give such great advice about savoring this season and I'm glad to hear that you have something great to look forward with this trip.
