We are in the process of very gently trying to nightwean DS. I am following the Gordon method and have only been at it for 3 nights. The biggest problem we are having is that during the 7 hour window where we only nurse for a few seconds and then pat/shush to sleep....DS will fall asleep without nursing after 5-20 minutes of fussing, but it is VERY restless sleep. He basically tosses, turns, and flips around until the next full wake up where he nurses again for a few mins. Then repeats the process until I basically have not slept from 12-4 and cave an hour early just to get some sleep for myself. So, it seems as if DS can put himself back to sleep without nursing-but it is a very light sleep. Anyone else experience this?? Thoughts?? Suggestions??
Re: Nightweaning=VERY restless sleep...anyone else??
We just nightweaned a few weeks ago after many, many, many unsuccessful attempts.
Ari was restless & still would ask to nurse a lot for the first 3 nights or so, but he's been doing better since then. Now he's sleeping until 5 most nights w/o waking at all. He has had a couple of instances of waking up kinda freaking out the last few nights, but he goes right back to sleep once I say "mommy's here, it's ok" so I think he's just having nightmares.
We're still bedsharing too.
