Holy flying cows Batman!

Meet my angelic son. Oh wait, he's only angelic if you don't put him down. Make sure you're holding in his paci too.

I hope you don't have to pee. Ever. Or get hungry.

How on earth do people make sure they get to pee and eat and shower and still actually get a bit of housework done? Or does it just not happen for the first month or so?

Oh no. I put the angel baby down next to me because he finally passed out and now he woke up with hiccups. I got a whopping 5 minutes with free hands.

It gets easier doesn't it? Right? RIGHT?!?!

Don't get me wrong, I love him to peices but I'm feeling like a really crappy wife who stays home all day and doesn't even sweep.

  • it does get better. Have you tried wearing him instead of just holding him? DS loved to nap in the sling while I vacuumed. It was one of my last resorts to get him to sleep. And no, don't expect an immaculate house any time soon!

Also, do watch for signs of reflux at that age. I think it accounted for a lot of DS's early fussy spells.

Hugs and hope your day improves!!

  • DD was like that too. That would be why I cried with joy when my ergo arrived.

This has been my world for the past year. :)

  • It does get better! DS2 is a lot like that and I recently discovered that he'll nap in his carseat. I also wear him a lot to free my hands. It gets much better after 3 months old, it did with DS1 at least so I hope it's true this time around as well.

  • Do you have a carrier that you could put him in?  A little fussing so that you can pee or make a sandwich is ok.  There are many times that I just had to put DS down and tell him mommy would be right back because ones bladder only holds so much liquid!

It does get easier!  He is still getting used to being an outside baby and that takes a while.  You are his security!

  • Yep, we had, and still have lots of days like those. The moby was a lifesaver for the first month or two. Try and keep up on the simplest things when you have a spare minute, after caring for yourself. I find if I just keep the counters clear, the bathroom somewhat wiped up, just basic things make you feel like your house is neat.  And your DH will understand when things aren't quite up to their usual standard, or when he has to have a PB & J for dinner.

No worries Mama! I'm sure you're doing a fantastic job!

  • There was a poem someone had in their status about your baby only being a baby for so long... I wish I could find it... but honestly, my point is just tend to him. Screw sweeping. Screw dishes. They'll be time for all that later and/or DH can help. Babies are a FULL time job. Ditto pp's and get a moby or ergo or ring sling or something. Hold him and cuddle him and love him. Tell your DH that nothing is going to get done (if he expected it to) because Ryan is #1 priority and he needs mommies full attention! :D

Honestly, no, it doesn't.  At least for us.  The Moby was a lifesaver for me too, but even so very little got done for the first 6-8 weeks.  Then once things started getting just a tiny bit easier I went back to work!  Stick out tongue

  • IT DOES get easier!!!!  I didn't read pp responses, so sorry if I repeat, but really your job right now is ultimately just to take care of him and yourself - don't worry about housework.  I don't remember the first time I swept the house or cleaned the bathrooms after DS was born - if anyone tells you differently they either need to shut up or do it themselves.  We ate after he went down for the night and whatever we could scrape together.  It's HARD in the beginning.

Have you tried wearing him?  White noise?   Call a friend or family member to come hold the baby awhile so you can have a sanity break or someone to talk to - I love to help new moms, but sometimes I don't always offer as much as I'd like because I don't want to intrude and it's easy for a new mom to feel isolated with a new LO.

(hugs)  This will pass.  He'll get used to being an outside baby and you'll figure out how he works and know him better than anyone.

  • Thanks everyone!!!

I think I should clarify, no one (but myself) is making me feel bad about not doing housework and my husband helps when he gets home at night (and he gets primary baby duty), but I have 2 friends coming into town this weekend to surprise him for his birthday and ... I think I could make a few more cats out of the hair on the floor, ew!  And DH made chili last night so my kitchen stinks. Lovely. I just want to house to be semi-presentable before they get here. I'd also like more than 2 hours of sleep but I know that's not gonna happen for a while.

Ryan fell asleep on our trip to Chick Fil A so I'm letting him stay in his carseat until he wakes up then we're going to do the Moby and try to get something done.

    Thanks again ladies!!!!!!!!

  • It will get easier.  Trying wearing him instead of always holding him and then you can pee, eat, clean, whatever.  If he's super fussy too, you may want to see if something in your diet is bothering him.  I gave up dairy and my fussy DS turned into a much happier baby.
