synagis shots for kids over 2

Has anyone had any luck getting their insurance to cover Synagis (the monthly RSV shot given in the winter) for kids over 2? It looks like I'm going to have to fight for it since it was recommended by DSs cardiologist but insurance is saying the guidelines are kids 2 and under. Just wondering if anyone has had success. It'll help me gear up for the paperwork and phone calls :)

Re: synagis shots for kids over 2

  • Our twins were premiees and were able to get it their first year but not after they turned one.  That year they had bronchitis, Matthew had pneumonia, and a mild RSV.  Chris was also premature but they wouldn't let him have it at all.  We were under house arrest for his first 2 winters.  I'd call your insurance and see if you can get some help.

  • Thanks, I guess I just need to wait and see if they accept or deny the claim first. I know it's an expensive shot but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a hospital visit, which would be the alternative if he gets rsv this year.
