Requesting nail polish brand suggestions

Hola Bumpettes!

All the nail polish brands I currently own have the bad chemicals I've heard/read about.  Do any mama's have any brand suggestions?  I read Sally Hansen, but would love some opinions before I buy a guaranteed chip fest.

I know its kind of petty, but I love my polish - plus I'm in AZ and I'm still rockin' the toesies

Thanks lovely ladies and have a nauseous free day!

  • What are these "bad chemicals" you're talking about. You can paint your nails with whatever you want...

  • I've not heard of or read about any solid studies that show that pregnant women shouldn't paint their nails. Of course everyone has their own opinions about this, but to my knowledge there are no strong studies indicating otherwise.  When I was pregnant with DS, I asked my OB a similar question and he said that it was perfectly safe.  As long as you are using the nail polish as directed, and you're not doing anything crazy like inhaling or digesting it... which I HIGHLY doubt you are :) ... you should paint away!  So to answer your question, I use OPI. :)

  • I use Zoya.  It is the least toxic of any nail polishes I have found.  Some salons carry it, but I have always ordered it online.

You said all you needed to right there.  Plus, it's not just the polish - you have to think about the use of remover later.

I'm not exposing myself to solvents (and that is what nail polish remover is), unless I have to.  And then - I'll be using an organic vapor respirator, googles, and gloves.  Sure, acetone is of relatively low toxicity... but why expose yourself to stuff you don't have to?

Husband has cystic fibrosis. I'm a carrier. We did TESE, IVF, ICSI, and PGD. After two failed IVFs, we were blessed with our twins.

Thank you girl!  So true and honestly the smell of it all is making me bleh - lol!

  • Ohmygosh.. lol I can see that hormones really kick in on some of these threads.

I just want to say that I am a licensed nail specialist and that most polishes are just fine to use. Everything is in moderation. Really the one who is in more harms way is myself who deals with these chemicals on a daily bases. Anyone who is going for the weekly or bi weekly manicure there is no real issue. Ofcourse If you want to be extra careful I will suggest some tips for you ladies.

Request the technician to use non-acetone when taking off the polish or bring your own.

I also would suggest OPI polishes as they are water based. As another poster mentioned this in the previous post.

Next, be sure you always wear a base coat.
