Is there such a thing? I'm on prenatal vitamins with folic acid and I started eating a cereal called Product 19, that has the 100% daily recommended amount of folic acid in it. Am I getting too much?
I think there is a point where you could get too much but not from what you're taking and eating. I think the recommendation for folic acid is like 400 to 800mcg and my doctors are not only fine with me taking five times that much, they recommended it. So, I don't think you need to worry.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
Its a vitamin. What you don't need your body will absorb through your urine. Some of us are taking 4000mgs of folic acid a day. You will be fine.
Agreed!! I take 4mg (4,000mcg) daily. My doctor actually recommended I take that much. It's water soluble so you should be fine with what you are taking

That's only true of water soluble vitamins. With fat soluble you can overdose. I don't know which category folic acid falls into but it is possible to OD on vitamins.
OP, talk to your doctor. I take a PNV with 800mcg and another 400 in a separate supplement and my doctor is fine with that amount.

Same here...
also, when I was pg I read most of "eating well when you're expecting" and I remember something in there about how when you get the vitamins and minerals from food, it's highly unlikely that your body is getting too much.

Since my angel baby had a neural tube defect, they have me taking 4mg of folic acid (plus 800mcg in my prenatal that I've continued to take). It's a water soluable vitamin, and is completely fine to take in that dosage. It reduces my risk of having another baby with an NTD from 5% down to 1%.So if I'm okay with taking 10 times the normal dosage, you are definitely okay.
Folic Acid is very difficult to get only from the foods you eat (even if you eat very healthy) so that's why taking them is so important. I cannot stress the importance enough. It can only help you, and as long as you're not downing an entire bottle every day, it is fine.

My fertility doc wants me to take my prenatal, 800 mcg, plus a perscription for 4000 mcg. I am almost certian folic acid is a water soluble vitamins, ie everything you don't absorbed is pushed out of your body through urine.
