? if you are traveling at Xmas?

How are you doing the kids gifts?  Brining them with?  Is Santa coming early to your house?  Or something different?

We are going to my parent's house for Xmas but we are not sure of the date yet probably between the 20-22.   I think it will be too much to bring our the kids gifts with.  They are going to get a ton from my family.  My mom is into spoiling!  We haven't been to my parent's home for Xmas since 2006...

When we to DH's parents house, we got there late on the 24th and did Christmas at our place that morning (it was a fun mess to come home too!)

Would it be to early to do Xmas on the 20th-22nd?

Re: ? if you are traveling at Xmas?

  • This will actually be the first year EVER that I have not travelled for Christmas.

What we've always done (including when I was a kid) is Cmas at our house first thing in the morning, eat some breakfast, and then start on the road.

  • We, thank God, are not doing holidays away anymore but we would bring DS's gifts with us...we only have one so wasn't a big deal...I would put them in a car top carrier if possible...I would also try to buy everything online and have it shipped (hopefully for free) to your parents house...Can you do Santa early with a five year old?
  • I would just buy online and have it sent to your mom's.

We spend Christmas at my parents and we go home enough that we just take it as we buy or send it with my brother or sisters.

  • We travel every year for Christmas and we bring the kids gifts with us or have them sent to my SILs, where we usually stay. I also buy online and have everyone else's presents shipped there, too. She stashes the stuff for me, then we wrap everything on Christmas Eve after all the kids/cousins are in bed.

  • we fly, so I sent a few smaller things...a leapster explorer, games, books and a strawberry shortcake doll  from "santa" for her to have that morning, then my parents buy some stuf that can stay there and some small stuff to take home.  This year we are going to come home christmas day, so I will also have a few gifts under the tree at home, especially if she still wants a new doll house in a few months
  • We open gifts at our house ahead of time- we already have too much stuff to pack that bringing the kids gifts doesn't make sense, and my family goes overboard for the kids anyway.

  • The last few years we did Christmas early. Last year we stayed home. This year as long as my doctor let's me travel (I will be 38 weeks pg) we will bring a few small gifts and leave her big gifts here. As I'm getting dd in the car dh will put out the gifts we are leaving at home. So "Santa" will vist both places.
