Did anyone's baby wean prior to one year?

I read that baby's don't usually wean until after one year however J seems less interested in nursing. He is 9.5 months.  He is very distractable and it doesn't help that I work and he has two older siblings who assist with his distraction.  I get J to nurse really well in the am if I bring him to bed.  If his bro and sis are up, it's much harder.   Somtimes he will nurse when we get up and before we leave...

J gets two bottles while I am at work:  one is BM, the other is formula.  I just don't pump enough, only 4-5 oz (sometimes pumped twice in a day or once always equalling the same amount)!  If we are out which is often on the weekends, he is given a bottle because my older kids (read DS1) like to push buttons becaue he knows I am occupied.

His night time nursing session is sometimes a bust too.  He is always offered.  For DS1, this was his fav session.  I just feel like, he likes the bottle more.  I am afraid our nursing days are numbered which makes me sad and happy at the same time....

  • My DD#3 stopped wanting to nurse at like 7mo--I had low supply & had supplemented for a couple months already--I think she liked the ease of it.  I think if you supplement or give pumped milk then it's not unusual to have a baby prefer to bottle feed since it's less work for them.

  • Brittyn self weaned at 10m.

I had a low supply that I could not get up and she wasn't gaining weight so pedi said to introduce whole milk early. Brittyn had one sippy of it and refused to nurse from that point on. Apparently she liked whole milk better, lol.

  • My middle son self-weaned at 9 months; he just lost interest and began to prefer the bottle and solids. As a result, my supply tanked. I'm really hoping to nurse DS3 to a year, but he's becoming more and more distracted (I have the noisy older sibs, problem, too; even the TV being on seems to distract him lately). I won't be surprised if he weans early. I'll be glad to have my body back, but sad because he's my last :(

  • I've heard that 10 months is common for nursing strikes, but it sounds like he's just really distracted. I remember nursing Annalise where she could watch TV and nurse around that age. I think all you can do is keep offering and find quiet places to nurse.

  • DD probably would have nurse forever:)  I stopped at 13 months (was down to once daily anyway and injured my neck, had to take medication.) But DS tried to wean about 10 months.  I pushed it daily until 11.5 months and gave in.
