flu shot..

hi ladies! i was wondering if everyone on here is getting their LO a flu shot?.. i was about to and then my mom started telling me this bad stuff linked to it and that i never had one, etc etc.. i did a bit of internet research but idk i cant make up my mind.. my LO isnt in the "high" rish category,, but if i dont get it for him will i worry all flu season?

Re: flu shot..

  • I have never had a flu shot, nor will I ever get one.  DD was born in January, and will not be getting one either.

DH, unfortunately runs big electrical jobs in elementary schools, so we are considering him getting one.

DD stays with my mom during the day.  If she was in a day care situation, I MAY have considered her getting one.  But that is not saying she would have gotten one.

  • I'm not getting myself nor DD one.  If she gets the flu, then she gets the flu.  I have never gotten the flu ever and I am a teacher.  I'm not worried about it at all :)
  • Absolutely.

For me, it was as simple as weighing the pros and cons. The chances of my child getting the flu are far greater than any "bad stuff" that could happen related to the vaccine. And the flu can be a very, very serious illness for infants. Oh, and my pedi recommends it, even though I SAH and EBF.

So yeah, he's getting it, I'm getting it, and DH is getting it.

  • My husband, baby girl, and I all got ours last week.  DD got hers at her pediatricians office, and me and DH got ours at Safeway.  We haven't have one side effect.  I think its worth it!!  I hate being sick.
  • We got our son the preservative free shot.  Since he's in daycare we thought it was important to have him receive the immunization.
  • I don't understand not getting a flu shot, especially for an infant/toddler.

I'll say what I always say: the flu can (and does) kill, and the vaccine is safe.  Seems like a pretty easy decision to me.

Don't listen to what your mother reads on the internet; ask your ped instead.  Guarantee that he/she will urge you to protect your kid.

  • thanks guys, i was just wondering what you all were doing/thinking about it! :)

This. And DD is in daycare so there is no telling what germs she will come in contact with. And also with the holidays coming up and all the visits from different people, I want us to all be protected.
  • Yes. DS is getting his first flu shot this weekend and the second dose will be at his 1 year appt. I got mine at work a couple weeks ago (I work in a medical office) and DH's work gives them free also and he will get his tomorrow. I don't understand why people don't get flu shots.

  • I am a retired pediatric nurse and saw too many flu viruses gone bad in infants. DS got one last week.
